Does anyone know if the current version of Vibrant's Liquid Speed for 3D Studio 3 will work with 3D Studio release 4? Are any of you using Liquid Speed? What do you think of it? I don't have it at this time. I was thinking about getting it.

The current version of LS is 1.03. This is compatible with 3DSR4. I have been using LS for about 3 weeks, and although it isn't a new set of warp engines, it does signifigantly speed up redraws. My only complaint? It has a dongle. That makes three I have hanging off the back end of my system. Anyway, hope this helps. I think that it is definately worth the investment.

Dean, << My only complaint? It has a dongle.>> I guess that you are talking about a hardware lock? If so, that would make 3 for me also. <<I think that it is definately worth the investment.>> I wasn't sure whether I should get LSpeed or not. I have only been using 3DS3 for a few months. I am still crawling. I am not sure whether I need it yet. I am teaching myself how to use it an hour or so a day. It is so easy to say to oneself, " This would be great to have a certain software. I will order it." Then, you find out you really didn't benefit from it. I have PageMaker and the only one who uses it is my 14 year old nephew. He makes little forms listing the songs on cassette tapes that he checks out from the library and makes copies of. What a great investment of $500+ on my part.<g>

In a production enviornment LSpeed pays for itself in a matter of weeks. In general, it increases redraw speeds – giving you more time to experiment, see more of your model, and reduce frustration. If you value your time, then it's definately worth it.

>> In a production enviornment LSpeed pays for itself in a matter of weeks.<< I don't agree. Well, I do and I don't – I'd qualify that statement. If you were doing architecture it'd probably be worth it. If you're doing multimedia work or broadcast logos etc., I'd say don't waste your money – it'd be better spent on some slick IPAS routines. I haven't bought it and I can't say I yearn for faster redraws because 3ds gives you plenty of tools to avoid long redraws. How about judicious usage of hide or fastdraw (by object)? Or just keeping the geometry simple? There's also mshres from the Yost Group which can help these situations. Just thought I'd add another perspective from somebody "in production enviornment" (environment) who's doing fine without Liquid Speed 🙂

>> enviornment" (environment) << Hey, I had to misspell something to prove I really was an architect <g>. By production, I meant the need to keep a payrolled 3DS artist as productive as possible doing what they like to do best – 3DS modelling. At the X-dollars per hour one was paying them, the redraw speds would make up for the dongle's price in Y-weeks. I did without LSpeed untill last July – now I grit my teeth a bit when I get on a system that doesn't have it. – Phil

Phil, >> At the X-dollars per hour one was paying them, the redraw speds would make up for the dongle's price in Y-weeks. << Only if they are not familiar with the other methods I mentioned. I'll concede that architectural work might get the lspeed advantage.

Thanks for the info on LSpeed. I may get it when I upgrade to 3DS 4. I am looking forward to going to a demo of 3DS 4 on Tuesday morning. I just got Inside 3D Studio yesterday. I am looking forward to diving in! I hope the water's not too deep. <g> 🙂 I am still new to 3DS. I have dog paddled all the tutorials and the entire reference manual. I got up to 30 pages an hour. I think we should look into creating subliminal message 3DS training tapes that people could listen to while they sleep. 🙂 Chris
