Gary (and friends), I bought the Disk #6 recently (yesterday?) through Schreiber and found the "Deform" didn't really seem to give me quite what I want <g>… Am I missing something, or is there no way to 'rp – sorry – no way to replicate the destination grid to be more 'fine' than 3×3 or 4×4 vertices? I would like to smash the front of a vehicle, for example, and have 6 measurements at 6" intervals, or the side of a car with 13 measurements at 6" intervals, as example.

Heck, I'm not really talking to myself (just yet), although it may seem so! Anyway – also, is there a way to 'bend' something from a straight object to a crooked one, again, for example a car that was hit in the door, to deform the wheelbase. (I know – I ask a lot <g>…

Mike, If I understand you correctly, I don't think deform is going to help you much. What I would do if I were you would be make a couple copies of your first object, either hide them or use save/selected. Then select all the faces on the back side opposite your crumples. Hide those faces. Now you have to go in and select groups of vertices and use a combination of modify/vertex/bend/skew/move with various selection groups. It's pretty tedious, but with a little practice, you can probably get pretty good at it. Roger D.

Actually, I've had limited success with DEFORM_I.PXP – enough to get me to the point of doing what you indicated above. Using a combination of 3×3 and 4×4 boxes helped me smack things in the desired way (mostly) using a tangled web of five or six deformation sequences until I got it 'close'. Now I'll have to get into the nitty-gritty like you said and bend/skew/move/etc the results… Oh, what the hey – gotta weekend coming up any moment now <g>…

If you don't want to edit all those vertices by hand, you might try Displace (Disk 7) instead of Deform with a "crumple" bitmap applied to selected faces. There's a demo of Displace in one of the libraries here. – Jack

hmmm… I'm sure I will sooner or later, but after examining the flyer it looked like "DEFORM" was more what I was after, although having both would be nice, of course! I'll purchase the rest soon, I'm sure (if I want to do any serious work, I'll need 'em!)…

Roger's pretty right-on with his answer. – G

yes, after playing around with it for a day, I got pretty much a 'good start', as noted in my previous msg to him. Sure wish you'd have 'em make that a user- selectable parameter (i.e. how fine the bounding box is around the original object), though! Since I've not delved into the IPAS development kit (although I suppose I'll do so once day – wait until I get a few more $$ <g>…) – I've been a programmer/analyst and/or DP manager then PC custom-build/service/sales for 22 years, now.
