#Unisys GIF Clarification

Ex-Unisys eh?
There are a lot more of us ex's then employees I would think. I agree
with your message. I could say the same thing, but I would have to switch
the Burroughs and Sperry names around as I started with Sperry.
They do need the money. This month I heard they were laying off another
3,000 people. That will put them at around 30,000 employees by years end.
Which may be less than either Sperry or Burroughs had to start with in
1986.

Yeah lot's of us ex-Unisys types around. Last time I went out on a job
interview, the guy mentioned the same thing. They were thinking of
starting a club. Hard to completely blame the company though. The nature
of the business has changed. When I started, a 6 meg mainframe filled a
room. There's more power on my desk now. And they need fewer people to
service them, at least from a hardware point of view.
I once had this theory that Blumenthal (Burroughs CEO at the time) wanted
to be the boss of the "first" computer company. The local fish & chips
chain's place used to have this plaque on the wall proclaiming they'd
bought some little place in England. This place was considered the
"inventor" of fish&chips, so that made the chain the inventor. 🙂
By the same token, Sperry was the successor to Univac, which bought the
old Eckert-Mochly (of Eniac fame) company. They were the first computer
company, so I guess that made Unisys #1.
On the other hand, it could be a load of dingo's kidneys.:D
