#PAR – Corrupt Data

HELP!!!!!!
I was trying to delete a few projects and .ANI files from my PAR drive to free
up some space. All hell has broken loose and I have a message which keeps
popping up claiming that data on the PAR drive is corrupt and that I have to
reformat. If I have to reformat I lose more than I could describe. Am I
screwed? Is there anything that I can do to save any files? I'll be up very
late tonight and I need help bad. Call me at 609.452.8888 or post a message if

The problem you are describing was posted up here on ASOFT a while back, I
searched my messages back 60 days or so and could not find any info. My
recollection was that a Project Directory was deleted and they got the same
messages you are describing. I think the only chance you have to recover your
*.ani files is from the DOS prompt. Load PARINIT and PARDRV to initilize the
PAR drive and then type PARDRV -P to set the output to PAR format. Then try to
copy the files off the PAR Drive onto your local drive and the proceed to
format the PAR and the recopy the PAR files back on to the PAR drive. I hope
this does some good.

Thanks for the message. I recalled a similar scrambling of data posted a while
back. Of course I didn't dedicate the solution (if there was one) to memory as
it would have helped me now. :-[ I copied as many files as I could off the
PAR to an Alpha drive. As I mentioned, the two files I really needed are
nowhere to be found.
Alec Jason gave me a call tonight (thanks again Alec) and also mentioned using
Norton Utilities to recover the files. I managed to load NU but I have no idea
how to get it to do what I wish. I tried the obvious commands but my PAR drive
was not available for most operations, NU was seeing only my C: and A: drives.

I tried your phone, but there was no answer.
You might try to copy the files using DOS commands directly to your HD and
bypass the PAR interface program. It seems I managed to get around the problem
once this way. A few files may still be corrupted, but most should get across
OK. With the newer version, I don't know if this approach will work.
You might jump into 3DS and use the PXP to change the export mode to TGA so you
get Targa files rather than ANI files. You can then reformat and recompile on
the PAR.

I have v 1.30b and was using this version when the Data Corrupted messages
appeared. I've been up for so many hours straight that it seems like last week
when this problem occured.
I had to reformat the drive and re-render the animation segments that got
fried. Yeah, if I had the cash I would have a 1TB drive so I wouldn't have to
purge any
TGA's. My re-render was successful albeit late. 🙁
I am amazed at the response I got from my cry for help. (Thanks again Tim,
Dean, James, Beavis) Forumites from all over the US called me within minutes
and I got a couple of great suggestions. Unfortunately nothing I tried would
get me my files back. Will Norton Utilities or something similar aid in
recovering data from the PAR drive? My quick try with NU yielded squat.
