#Using Vistapro images
6 messages in this thread
I have rendered a Martian landscape in Vistapro and would like to composite
elements from 3DS into my Vistapro rendering, e.g. build a Mars base in 3DS and
put that into the landscape.
I tried importing a DXF landscape from Vistapro into 3DS and applied a texture
map from Vistapro to get the proper landscape color. I could not get the color
to look good in 3DS and of course many elements from the Vistapro landscape
were missing, such as the lake, trees and clouds.
How can I use an image as-is from Vistapro and composite elements modeled and
rendered in 3DS into it?
Thanks for any help.
Jay
Their is a file on Asoft that converts dem to 3DS I think it called dem23ds
you will not get the vistapro map to work well . but one way is to set the VP
camera from the top view render it ,save the map and use it in 3DS.
The thing to remember is to detach the top faces of the mesh [make it
object01]and align mapping cords from top. next map the remaning object from
the front view . Turn
the mapping cord y -45 degrees and apply to object02.
I have the best results using Displace and not Vistapro.
Thanks for the suggestions. What is Displace? I haven't heard of it.

Read pp.124-126 in the Vistapro .v3 manual. You are trying method 1,
applying the texture map from Vistapro to the .dem>.dxf>.3ds mesh in 3DS. You
lose all the nice texturizing, trees, etc.
Use method 2. The .dxf>.3ds landscape is used as the basis for your
buildings, camera moves, etc. Set up your scene in 3DS, then create a .vue
file. Use the vue2scr utility in Vistapro to get a .scr file. Render the
animation in Vistapro using the original Vistapro .dem file and the new .scr
file. Use these rendered images (.pcx–convert to .gif–, .bmp. or .tga) as
your background in 3DS. Hide the landscape objects. Better yet, make them
matte objects before doing the .vue, and your objects can be made to disappear
behind Vistapro mountains. Watch out for trees, as they won't be accounted for
as matte objects. This is all in the manual. Have fun!

Paul,
I had tried method two from the Vistapro manual and had a few problems getting
it to work. I'll give it another shot.
Thanks.
