EXCUSE ME. DID I SNEEZE AND MISS SOMETHING? I'm jacked in and running around the cyberscape and tripping down some back alley called S9/Index and Info when I stumble across some grafitti I've got to read real careful-like to learn that > >> >>>>> there's a BONES IPAS sitting in the Library <<<< < < <<<<<<<<<< waiting for people to download! Did somebody have a press release party and forget to send out invites? No Color Brochures. No Big Announcements. What kind of BONE Head idea is this? Attention all 3D STUDIO users. BONES IPAS FOR DOWNLOAD IN LIBRARY #3 I mean, it seems like there's been a lot of salivating going on here. In recent weeks I couldn't pass through this neck of the woods without feeling like I was walking thru a graveyard on Halloween with all of the banter 'bout BONES. Does this guy Joseph Munkeby know what he's doing? Does he have a clue about how to get the word out about his stuff? I punch into the library. AND Holy Cow!!! He snuck it up there only a couple of hours ago and already its on its way to becoming the most downloaded file in the library. The file is charting with a bullet boys and girls. He's got a hit. More than 125 downloads. And its already receiving reviews! Glen Melenhorst from Down Under in Aussie Land is first to clock in 01:44:43 25-Oct-94 No wonder he's known as the Zephyr -= No moss growing on this guy =- He's already downloaded and checked it out and he's back looking for info. GM > Hi all, Has anyone got Joseph Munkeby's ID? GM > I'd like to both congratulate and grill GM > him about his BONES ipas demo. It seems pretty cool. GM > Glenn Zephyr Clue Glenn: It's tops the file description: [75107,2653] <———————————– BONES.ZIP/Bin Bytes: 103268, Count: 118, 24-Oct-94 Title : SHAREWARE Bones IPAS: Cheap Skeletal Morphing Munkeby himself responds to the call only minutes later 02:46:06 25-Oct-94 JM > …Hi, Glad you liked it. It's actually a fully capable BONES. JM > Not just a demo. …Send on the questions. JM > Joe Later in the day Melenhorst is back 17:42:07 25-Oct-94 extending his gratitude, firing away with the questions and sneaking in some double entendre. GM > Hi Joseph. Thanks for your work on bones! GM > It's just what I've always wanted (and it 'aint even Dec25th). GM > I have boned a number of things …. ( ROBERT RITGER snickers from the hallway ) ( DAMN, this Cyberspace Stuff is exciting! ) ( For the rest of Melenhorst's inquisition see message # 131085 ) ( in the S9/Index and Info sub ) The Zeph concludes: GM > All in all I'm blown away by your work GM > and I hope you get a lot of support for it. GM > Thanks GM > Glenn Melenhorst Zephyr. Later the G – Man, no less, punches the clock: > 25-Oct-94 10:29:14 > Sb: #131074-Bones > Fm: Yost Group 76702,413 > To: Glenn J Melenhorst 100353,134 (X) Yost > I'm glad you noticed it. I (likewise) am extremely impressed with it! Yost > – G Noticed it? You think they would have said sumptin in the IPAS sub. Or the 3D Studio sub. What is this? Some form of sub-liminal? No. We gotta go look in the Info / Index sub. ( All of these subs are making me hungry. ) Anyway, here's what you'll find in BONES.ZIP in the 3D Studio Library # BONES1_I.KXP BONES3_I.KXP BONES.DOC BONES2_I.PXP BNDAID_I.PXP BNDAID.DOC WHATYOU.GOT Not just BONES IPAS but something called BEND-AID…. Two additional .ZIPs available for download in the library contain… A sample animation of a dancing '57 Chevy produced with BONES … And the Munkeby's project file so you can see how it was done. Here's the project file that made the dancing '57 Chevy flic [download time at 2400 baud: 32 min] Boys and girls, if you want to know more you have to download the suckers… and remember SHAREWARE is not freeware. If you like the stuff and use it, support it. KUDOS Mr. Munkeby. If you want a P.R. Guy give me a holler. I'm outta here. Kevin Gibson Animation Nation <tm> -= It's a state of mind. =-

Thanks for the shout.

Kevin, all, Yet another glaring example of how sorely missed are the services of a previous Sysop who diligently posted descriptions of new uploads as messages for the conveniance of those of us who cruise in here on automatic using stuff like Tapcis. It would have been several weeks if ever, before I discovered this BONES stuff by updating my library files had you not sounded the alarm — thanks. Bruce N. Goren

Bruce: Without Kevin's advertising campaign I wouldn't have gotten BONED. 🙁 (Hope to get a few chucks out of Glenn M). Bob

Up out of the pages of "TV Technology" and now glowing, white letters on the blue background of my monitor, the name of a fellow industry watcher and writer, Bruce N. Goren. Good to hear from you guy. Sorry it took me a few days to get back to ya. Thanks for providing me with some quotes. <G> Are you still hanging your hat at KLCS in L.A.? What else is new? Where might I have read your latest? A SIGGRAPH wrap? Have you rolled dem Bones? Whaddya think? (Have I asked enuff questions?) My alert was indeed geared to flag down people like you who come cruising through here at the speed of light, whizzing past everything and doing a cull based on some predetermined subject/time/cost criteria. I still negotiate the data highway at command level. Exploring as I go. I ususally cruise below radar, but recently I had reason to surface. Perhaps you caught my rant. Too much caffeine. <G> My moniker will probably do a quick fade from the boards here shortly as new projects make demands for more time and posting becomes a luxury no longer affordable. But as always, I'll be lurking. FTR I think the SysOps are doing a great job. Things like Jonas' recent take on "quaternions" make me feel like I should have paid more attention in school. And he's not quoting out of some book. These guys are pumping it right of the gray matter. BTW Where did JP go? I was sleeping that month. Gimme a shout. If ya want, we can jump over to Take 5. You need to check out the sidestreets anyway. 🙂 Ya know, we could help the SysOps by putting our own reporting skills to work. How 'bout something like this: ~r LIBRARY WATCH | —————– | | | [75107,2653] \ / BONES.ZIP/Bin Bytes: 103268, Count: 291, 24-Oct-94 Title : SHAREWARE Bones IPAS: Cheap Skeletal Morphing Now appearing in Library #3 One of the fastest moving files in ASOFT's history. Another hit-and-run broadcast from: Kevin Gibson That's right. Animation Nation <tm> -= It's a state of Mind.=-

WOW! I, um, eh, WOW! Mr. Gibson, I am impressed. Press Release: Something done to strenthen the body before the days of the 24hour Jacked in Cyber-man. (press-release-press-release, ok 15 more reps. . .) I clearly DO NOT know what I am doing! I have only been reading messages in subs 1 & 3. A blind man, walking across the freeway, looking for the traffic. Sheer luck that my news reader picked up Glenn's message and let me make a small response the first time. A California Internetter in Compuserv's court. My apologies to anyone I did not respond to. The Compuserv learning curve is looming ahead of me, but I come well equipped. Bend-aid: Something you use to patch your skin when you have an accident, and your bones are sticking through?? Do you really download at 2400 baud??? Gee, I am REALLY sorry about the huge project file. The dance is not worth it. I really must access some animation skill. There must be somewhere in Cyberspace where I can download it straight to the forebrain! As for section 9 from Cyberspace? It was really part of the grand plan to keep the bones underground. (Oh my, did I really say that? Would some kind sysop please bury this message to prevent my embarrassment?) And finally, some bad news: I have had one report of a memory problem in bones2. A fix has been dispatched, and no further problems have been reported. However, I am waiting to hear about any other possible problems before I post the fix. If you have encountered a problem, please let me know. If all continues to look good, I will post the fixed version in time for next thursdays clearing house. Thank you Kevin for a very amusing blow by blow. If I ever need a P.R. Guy, you will definatly top the list. Jacking out. Joe

>> If you have encountered a problem, please let me know. If all >> continues to look good, I will post the fixed version in time for >> next thursdays clearing house. I ran into an abnormal termination with Bones2 that crashed 3DS. If I can duplicate the problem, I'll send the details over. Other than that, it seems to work great! Thanks for making it shareware. The try-before-you-buy concept is fantastic when there are so many routines being developed. – Dave
