Tileable spelling
4 messages in this thread
I am putting the finishing touches on an article for the next issue of Planet
Studio. The article describes a way to create animations that can tile a
surface seamlessly. The animations are intended for use in 3ds as maps.
Should I call them "animated tileable maps"? Or, is there a better name (and
spelling)?
Thanks in advance! Ed K.

the only other buzzword i've heard discribe these types of maps is
"seemless"… so "seemless animated maps" might work. then again, Ed, you being
the pioneer, you might do well to coin a new phrase for your innovations. 🙂

Gee, thanks, Dave, you give me too much credit. I've certainly enjoyed the last
few weeks following in YOUR truly pioneering explorations of Animator Studio. I
hated AS when I first tried it, but your enthusiasm was really contagious. Not
just your articles, but even though I haven't looked at the forums for a while
I see your name pass by (and the associated "everything works just great!"
topic) while downloading messages.
My first animation was "Smiley" or whatever he was called. I persisted, in
great part because your "where do-I-start?!" introduction in Planet Studio was
in such conflict with my first experiences (trying 1024×768 animations for
example<g>). After getting the much improved Ver. 1.1, and using it for several
weeks all I can only say is that Autodesk has another winner! It boggles my
mind that they started their initial release with such an incredible number of
features (that work!).
Well, how was it that you lost your hard drive? I still haven't recovered
completely from my loss. In my case, I decided to load my PC in the back seat
of my car and go see my granddaughter (a two and a half hour trip).

i agree. we got off to a rocky start, but the product's feature list and
current stability on Win3.x and Win95 make it a powerful app.

a three hours tour… a three hour tour… <ggg>
i travel a lot and the hard drive on my laptop gave up the ghost. the cause was
a mechanical failure. fortunately most of the data has been recovered at this
point, but to anyone who has never had a hard drive crash… it ain't pretty.
the time in snail mail transit alone is downright ugly.
