#Flyer HD$$ all the same?

All of the Flyer certified drives are coming with a five year warranty,
and of course, at present will be replaced very quickly, since many are
available. Since they are being made to Newtek specifications, they are
necessarily undergoing greater quality control than the mass-produced
drives, so the DOA rate should be non-existant. After all, they are
tested on a Flyer BEFORE you get them.
I believe that OLDER version was produced between April and July '95.
I hope this drive pricing will iron out soon –

It's not the warranty part that bothers me: it's the turnaround time. No
control over that one.

Granted – but good dealers should be prepared to support their customers.
We hope to be able to by February, and trust that no one will put a major
timedependent project on right away – or Murphy's law will prevail!! on a
new product for sure. For the time being, we're making our demo unit
available for backup, should the need arise. But our customer has to have
a tape backup system to get the project moved.
Finally, the excitement is justified!!

I got a message from my dealer today, stating the NewTek Prices on the
drives. The 2gig is about what I tought it would be, but he quoted $3300
for the 4gig. This seems a little high. What are you prices AND What do
you expext the prices to be like in another 3 months?

My dealer quoted me $4799 for the Approved 9Gig. I think I will wait
till there is a better (Cheaper) solution. Right now I can not afford to
buy a drive that I am not certain will work, but that price is just a bit
too high. I am sure that in the months to come prices will drop even more.
The thing that gets me though is the price of the 4Gig. $3200. That just
seems a little disproportional.

I am getting my system through K.J. Computers, in Granada Hills, Ca.
they are just a small shop in the S.F.valley. I'm pretty sure they don't
do any mail order, and they rarly have the best prices. But it is a
friendly place with great customer service. It is a good place to hang
out, and you can usualy run in to someone you recognize from the Toaster
and Amiga world.
Mike at KJ quoted me the prices. He said that there is a glut on the 2Gig
drives the 9Gigs are scarce but not imposible to get and the 4Gig is
somewhere in the middle. He also said that NewTek is only shipping whole
systems. In other words, once NewTek Gets your money from your dealer you
are first in line for the next flyer unless they don't have your drives
handy. They wont send just the Flyer, then the drives as they get them.

All the Newtek certified Flyer harddrives are coming from Amiga
distributors like MicroPACE or American. CEI will have them eventually,
as well. I believe Newtek is charging the same to all distributors, so
that all drives should be costing dealers about the same (maybe $100-200
difference, max). Our drives are being sold only to our customers, since
we provide complete preparation and on-site installation for all the
products we sell. Having the correct external chassis, cables, and CD-ROM
for software installation, all effect the delivered price.
The prices seem to be based on availability, and since Newtek is having
the drives manufactured as special runs, Newtek will control the
avaiability until a manufacturer decides to make the Flyer features part
of all drives, and makes all runs Flyer compatible.
At present I don't see any price reductions in the near future.
I hope I'm wrong.
