While browsing through a long list of messages on your files, I saw lots of
technical items and some references to possible new hardware items. But I saw
nothing of GAMES availability or upcoming. Am I in the right place? The system
cut out while near the end of section 4. presumably there was a time limit. On
returning today I note that it appears that i have not read all these
messages???
I think games are in the AmigaArts Forum.
Time limit? I don't think so. CIS *wants* your money!
Enjoy!

Thank you. I will look there. My reference to time limit refers to the eventual
NO CARRIER message on my terminal after some time browsing
Peter,
You're welcome. Hope I was right <g> I semi collect the old games for my A500
and a basic 2000 that I have, so always check the Classifieds in this Forum for
great values. How about $50 original price games for $5 and shipping? Since I
have no time to Master complex games, these are great to boot when I have a few
minutes.

I thought that was probably what you were talking about. Probably a CIS node
problem. It happens to me a lot, too. GO FEEDBACK and complain to customer
service about it. You might also mention it in the communications section
here, the help section, or if running AutoPilot, the AP section of the
AmigaVendor Forum. (This also happens to my laptop with WINCIM when I *must*
use it online, so doubt if it has anything to do with your Amiga)
Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. Will do.
Peter,
Sometimes there are network problems that knock you off the system,
even local telephone problems will do that. That's why the unexpected NO
CARRIER. CIS does have an idle timeout where if you haven't entered a
keystroke for 20 minutes it will presume there's been some problem and hang up
on you…which will also lead to a NO CARRIER message.
The idle timelimit doesn't work in all areas…for example, it
is no active while doing an upload or download.
But in any event, if you leave CIS "abnormally" that is…via a hang
up, rather than a log off, all your pointers get left as they were when you
logged on to a particular forum. Again, let's say you were here in the Amiga
forum. You are reading messages and the line gets hung up. Then your high
message pointer won't be reset…and it will look as if you've not been here
that day. High message pointers get set when you leave a forum's message base
legally (no hang up). Going to a library or to one of the conference rooms
will re-set you high message pointer.
But hanging up, while in the message base (whether on purpose or by
accident) will not set your message pointer to your new high message, it will
leave it alone…so the next time you come in, it will look as if you haven't
read the messages from the last time you were in.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I should exit a section at regular intervals instead
of browsing at length.
Jim,
They DO want your money. But there is(was?) a time limit for no activity. If
you do NOTHING at all for 5 minutes or so they will drop the connection. A
transmit now and then should keep you active and online.

Yeah, thank God for that for the times I've been distracted, but I think he
indicated that he was unexpectedly interrupted, as I am frequently during
downloads and attempted sign-ons.
I assumed line, modem or node problems.

Peter,
<But I saw nothing of GAMES availability or upcoming. Am I in the right place?>
Games are listed in the AmigaArts libraries.
If you're using AutoPilot, you can grab (either in real time, or download as
a series of .CAT files) a complete listing of all files in each section that
you can peruse it offline.

Thanks Asha. That seems like a great idea.
Peter,
You'll find the games in AmigaArts, the programming in AmigaTech, and other
things here.
