Thanks for the suggestion, Don. A couple of questions:
1. What is "Dot Perfect"? 2. I was told by a printer specialist that the
tractor feed option for the FX-80 was no longer available. One of the bigest
problems I have with the FX-80 (aside from not having near letter quality type)
is that, with continuous form paper, the paper wanders all over the place on
the printer. I can't use the printer for more than three pages or so without
having it wander on the platen. I really need a printer with tractor feed. 3.
One of the other problems I have is in printing out items on PageSetter and
other programs (Deluxe Paint II, etc.). Even if the "normal" white lines are
eliminated with the enhanced printer driver I downloaded from DL 11, I stillget
a mysterious occasional white line that runs (cont.) across the type. It is
not every line–just every so often. When I have run PageSetter as demos at my
computer store on other printers (the Star NX-1000
), it doesn't have those white lines appearing every so often. It's like the
printer (or computer) "hiccupped" and inserted an additional 1/64th of an inch
on my FX-80. If you have any practical suggestions, I'm open to any.

Dot's Perfect is a ROM (well…really 3 ROM's) upgrade for Epson
printers that gives you true NLQ mode, front panel selection of many options
and a few other goodies. It costs $80. It's made by Dresselhaus and you can
contact them at 1-800-368-7737 for more information.
The FX-80 has a built in tractor feed…or at least those models of it
that I've seen had one. Even if your's doesn't (perhaps it's the FX-80+ that
has it built in), check with an Epson dealer, I'd bet tractor feeds for other
Epson models would work.
Which printer driver are you using? If you're not using the v1.2
version…upgrade, it's much better. If you are using the 1.2 version, try the
JX-80 printer driver, just use it in black and white mode.

My FX-80 doesn't have a tractor–at least when I bought it, it was an option.
That was many moons ago.
I've been using the regular Epson printer driver until very recently, when I
downloaded the enhanced driver on DL 11. I haven't tried the JX-80 driver
–maybe I'll give that a shot. The enhanced driver seems to print better than
the 1.2 Epson driver, but it's mulower.
I'll try pursuing the number you gave for the NLQ mod–but where would the
switches go that would allow the NLQ choices?

The OnLine, FormFeed and LineFeed push buttons are used to set the
mode. While the printer is in ONLINE condition, tap the FF button and you are
in NLQ mode. Hit the LF button and you're in draft mode.
Again, while in ONLINE condition, hit the OnLine and FormFeed buttons
at the same time and you are now in 'program' mode. Hit the FF button and it
steps you thru a series of options, as you get to an option you'd like to
select, hit the LF button. You can select any legal combination by steping
thru just once. When you've finished your selections (and you don't haveto
step all the way thru if you only want to set one option) you hit the OnLine
button again and you're all set.
If you go to OFFLINE mode, then the FF and LF buttons work as normal.
