#Buying 1st Amiga
6 messages in this thread
I'm am currently plugging along with a pcjr and would like to buy an
Amiga. There are some great deals for A1000's and the a500 is almost the same
price. I not sure what to buy. After owning a pcjr, I know I want a machine
that wont be an orphan. I also would like to know if anyone reccommends to just
spend the extra money for an A2000 and avoid all kinds of crazy enhancments and
sidecars that are required for the A1000 and pcjr. Thanks for any advice.
Scott,
If IBM programs are important to you, and you can afford the extra money, the
A2000 is probably the one to go for. The Sidecar is "sort of" available. I mean
by that, that they are not in abundant supply. The three machines are the same
as far as the software is concerned, so your decision should be based on your
needs for expansion.

Dear Larry,
Thanks for your advice. I think I will decide on the A2000.

Scott,
Here are a couple of recommendations (interspersed with some opinion that is
obvious).
1. Keep the PCjr to run IBM software – you won't be able to get what it's worth
to you to keep it since people are still in the "buy the bells and whistles"
mode instead of evaluating what the machine can do for them.
2. The A1000 will soon become an oprhan machine (opinion supported by some
market actions of manufacturers), which you have said that you don't want.
3. Evaluate your future Amiga expansion needs and what you expect your machine
to do for you in evaluating whether to get an A500 or A2000. (for example – if
you plan to do some high powered word processing, consider the A2000 with the
detached keyboard very carefully)
The Amiga is a great machine.

Dear David,
I think I will decide on the A2000. I,ve had enough headaches with my PCJR
orphan. Thanks for your advice.
