'Cosmetic' programs such as DropShadow and DropCloth arguably increase the
utility of the system; it's far easier to determine the depth of a given window
with DropShadow running, and DropCloth improves icon visibility and
distinctness.
I wish there were a way to shrink the Gizmos Cuckoo Clock the way one can
shrink a Conman window. If it could blank the screen after a period of
inactivity, and then pop about in miniaturized form a la Autopoint …
This bring to mind the thread on AMuse back in early 1986 about Starterm's huge
icon.
I never use DropCloth, chiefly because it requires running WorkBench, and I am
totally anti-WorkBench (give me CLI anyday). I must admit that I really like
the idea of DropShadow, but those ENORMOUS time lags during screen refresh
leave alot to be desired. Perhaps (someday) when I'm running with a 68020,
I'll have extra CPU time for CPU cycle hungry subtasks like DropShadow, until
then (unless someone writes much tighter code), I think I'll just use the old
mouse to make sure the window I want to be on top is on top!
