There is a program to convert cakewalk to Mid format 1 for the IBM (it is
in the Midi Sig. go midi). I use it all the time with transformer and it
works great, just a little slow which is transformers fault not the

Cakewalk 3.0 has built in MIDI file load/save capabilities, i.e. it can
read formats 0 and 1, and writes to format 1. I routinely work with an
Amiga and a PC AT clone. I'd also highly recommend "Band-in-a-Box", though
not available for the Amiga.
I would like to download cakewalk files from the MIDI forum and play them
through Bars and Pipes using the accessory tool, MuFFy. This tool works
well reading files with the extension .mff or .mid found on the MIDI forum
files. It gurus when I try to read a Cakewalk file, however. I've changed
the extension on these files to the format that MuFFy needs to see but it
still doesn't work. How can I get Cakewalk files to play on Amiga

I have not yet worked specifically with reading Cakewalk produced MIDI
files into MuFFy; but will try it out and get back to you. As I've been
using, and transferring MIDI files between various sequencers – KCS,
Music-X, Tiger Cub, M, Bars&Pipes, Master Tracks Pro — all on the Amiga,
and those produced by Cakewalk, Band-in-a-Box, and PC Lyra — on my PC/AT
clone: I have not had too many conversion problems. Of course, you must
save Cakewalk's own ".WRK" files as ".MID" files before expecting MuFFy to
c t them for Bars&Pipes.

There is a Cakewalk to MFF converter program, supplied by Twelve Tone
Systems (authors of Cakewalk). It's called CAK2MI.ARC and is in DL 7 of
the MIDI forum. Unfortunately, you'll either need a BridgeBoard or access
to an MS-DOS system to run it. I've never seen a conversion utility for
the Amiga for Cakewalk files.

Cakewalk 3.0 includes loading/saving of MIDI files. Any .WRK file can be
easily converted into a MIDI file format 1 and "ported" to the Amiga.

Yes, you're correct about Cakewalk 3.0. I think that the question was how
to do something with the many .WRK files that are in the MIDI forum DL's on
the Amiga without actually purchasing the Cakewalk program. Conversion to
MFF will work, but, without Cakewalk, the conversion program will work, if
you have a BridgeBoard or access to a PC to run the conversion program
mentioned.

I don't own cakewalk just convert the files. Midi format capablitites is a
must for me now that I have updated to the newer version of KCS II. Love
the ability to read any of the vast quantity of .MID files available and to
be able to use the IBM converter to convert .wrk cakewalk or .asc calkwalk
files to .Mid format so Amiga users can here them also is taking up alot of
my free time. Even converting Adlib .Rol files to .Mid is proving a
excellent alternative all though time consuming(.Rol to .Asc to .wrk to
Mid all through utilities). Seems cakewalk 3.0 changed there .wrk file
format though and the cake2mid utility won't recognize it. Have heard some
Band-in-Box .Mid converts and called the demo number…very impressive does
it uses its own format for storage? If so will have to wait for another
conversion program to hear more. Remember I am doing this all with
transformer. Steve
Band-in-a-Box's internal format is very concise and just consitsts of the
chord progression and various other things. It however saves it into a MIDI
format 1 as if it were performing it, consequently the file is necessarily
longer but fully portable to other sequencers. Unfortunately there isn't an
Amiga version; but fortunately I have a PC AT clone, and I MIDI the two
together anyway for convenience using MIDI clocks sent from BB to one of my
Amiga sequencers, typically KCS Level II, Bars&Pipes, Music-X, or Master
Tracks Pro. I also only have "transformer". But also have DOS2DOS, and am
inclined to get CrossDOS soon also.
