Ken: >> Strange, isn't it? The Logitech emulates a MS mouse better than >> it works in native mode. Yes, this is strange, Ken. I've always found that I can get the mouse working when I configure for MS, even with Windows, PCTools, etc. Any ideas why? I've always just accepted it and moved on, but it doesn't make any sense, and now that I think about it, it really BUGS me! Larry

Larry, My comment was sorta ment in jest. But…. The MS Mouse interface is well defined. Lots of folks us it, so if the code doesn't work, plenty of people scream until it does. Now, if your MSM interface code is OK, but you have bugs in the Logitech interface code is bad, most Logitech users simply re-configure for a MSM and never complain. Windows properly interfaces with the Logitech mouse without *any* mouse.com driver. In fact, I have my Kurta tablet using its IS PenSmith driver emulating a MSMouse, and a Logitech bus mouse for Windows. Neat, huh? I don't think there's anything wrong with the Logitech drivers. See, you *do* need me <hee hee>. Ken /// CAD Masters

Ken: Ever used a Logimouse? I get lots of complaints about drivers failing in Windows and/or Acad with these. My plain-jane serial Logitech Mouse does just fine, so long as I configure the software for the MS Mouse, but does the occassional "feet-straight-up-in-the-air" when I forget and configure for Logitech. Ah well… another mystery locked deep in the box beside my desk… <g> Larry

At any rate, I downloaded the "new new" Logitech mouse driver (6.0) and this seems to correct the problem. This is my fourth mouse driver upgrade in two years. While the upgrade solves compatibility problems with Windows 3.0 and DOS 5.0 it makes all the Logitech mouse utility software obsolete since it won't work with the new drivers. Logitech gives the drivers away but charges for the utility upgrades even though there is no added functionality. I'm now a Microsoft Mouse convert. Ray Emplit

Larry, Uh… by Logimouse, do you mean the low-end model, or the older model, or the bus mouse? I've used all but the low-end model. No problems. Except when Wolf gets kurta fever and can't find a puck to bury…<g> Ken /// CAD Masters

Ken: Had to scan back in my Egghead catalogs <g> to figger out which one I *did* mean. A few years back Logitech was selling both a serial mouse (known simply as Logitech Serial Mouse) and a bus mouse (known as Logimouse). I have no idea as to any technical differences they might have had, but they obviously cost different amounts, and I believe the Logimouse was supposed to have a better resolution. Anyway… I was just wondering if this driver problem might be tied to the bus version, because I've never had any problems getting my serial rodent to respond – just use the DEVICE line to install it, and away it goes! Larry, Logitech mice: They are all known as LogiMouse. First they had the old 'wedge' mouse in a serial, then bus version. Same mouse, different interface, both 200 ppi resolution. I've had no problems with either. Then they introduced the 'hi-rez' mouse, bus version only, wedge case, stripes on top, 320 ppi. Great mouse. Wonderful if you have big hands. Next came the 'ergo' series by way of the Series 9 "melted-bar-of-soap" mouse. It was 320 ppi and I hated the shape. Good for small hands. Available in both serial, bus and PS/2 interfaces. Now we have "MouseMan" in serial, bus, PS/2 and wireless interfaces. 400 dpi, left and right hand vesions. Nice product. At the low end, they now have "Dexxa" (2 button MS clone) and "First Mouse" (3 button) as low cost, entry level products. The best would be a combination of the wedge case finger rests and pick-up ribs on the MouseMan bus mouse. But I can't get that…. yet…<g> The drivers are the same between serial and bus versions. I have found that most programs that give you the option of driving a Logitetech mouse want to drive it direct. ie no Logitech mouse driver loaded at all. Tim Woodward
