Is it my imagination, or does this forum not understand 'new' with respect
to reading messages? Ordinarily, I expect that means 'messages since I last
logged on and read messages', but I think I get much more than that. Maybe
the system recognizes me as a slow learner and is trying to be helpful.

I have not heard of this problem before. Perhaps if it happens again, you
could make a note of the message # and pass it along to me – I'll check it
out.
You do have the ability to set the date for new messages, which overrides
the normal "counter." Is it possible you have set this for an earlier date
and are thus seeing some messages again?
