I've got a ZIP file ready to go that contains Samba, including SGI executables, which provides a freeware link between the SGI and PCs. So far, according to Brent Malnack, Samba works with the SGI 3DS renderer. (I wasn't able to test it with my old SGI because it's not an R4000. Sniff.) Should I upload it here, or since it might have general appeal, should I put it over in the regular 3DS forum? Samba uses NetBEUI and TCP/IP as transports, which means that no special software beyond Microsoft's regular LAN Manager software is necessary on the PC side of things. You just need to set up the WfW-style 'net' command and you can easily mount the SGI's drives as PC drives.

<<Should I upload it here, or since it might have general appeal, should I put it over in the regular 3DS forum?>> I think you should upload it here, so that other BETA sites can play around with it if they want. I wouldn't upload it in the ASOFT forum until after the product ships, though. After it ships, we will have a section devoted to SGI, and you can put it there. FYI, I will not be playing with this until after the product ships. After that, I will take a look at some of these alternatives to PC-NFS or the "supported" LAN software. Until that time…supported protocols only for me! -Brian
