I'd like to add another twist to the AMAX partition problem. I have a
2000 w/GVP combo card and its' corresponding gvpscsi.amhd amax driver. On
my Amiga side hard drive I have a 20 Meg partition called AMAX1 (that
always shows up as AMAX1:LK' or some such nonsense on my workbench. I
also have a 46 Meg removable Ricoh (remember them?) drive sitting out on
the SCSI chain. That had always been labeled as DR0: and formatted with
amigaDOS stuff. THe problem I was having was not being able to switch the
removable cartridges when I started AMAX. (BTW the AMAX side removable
cartridge had been formatted completely from AMAX) THere were 2 problems.
First of all, the cartridge wouldn't mount at MAC startup time. I was
eventually able to use a program called SCSIProbe to get the cartridge
mounted and appearing on the desktop–but I was never able to consistently
run programs from that cartridge.
What I did to solve the problem was to use GVP's FaastPrep to rewrite the
diskblocks on *both* disks and called them *both* AMAX2 . Then all I had
to do was to go back into my user-startup sequence and change any
references to the old DR0: to AMAX2: Now it seems to work ok. I suspect
that when AMAX starts up it remembers more than the device name, but
that's only a guess. Hope it's helpful to you.

There is a way to use HDToolBox to set the filesystem on your AMAX1
partition so it won't show up on the Workbench. I believe you select
partition drive, then select change filesystem and here is where I forget,
you either select CUSTOM or RESERVED filesystem. I think it is RESERVED,
but someone else help me out here.
I use only macintosh formatted devices, cartridges. NO AMAX file formats.
I run AMAX, boot the MAC and use macintosh utility software to format and
install device drivers on the cartridges. If your running system 6.xx you
can download the utility from CMS BBS 714-222-6601, if your using System 7
you'll have to buy the updated version of it for $25. I also use
SCSIPROBE, an INIT to mount the cartridges if they don't mount upon boot.
