I am sure glad that I have another option in using this optical drive; I would
be an extremely irate customer because I have been trying to get this to work
with Corel software for over 6 weeks now.
If your software supports the ultrastor 34F and Fujitsu M2511 Optical drive
under OS/2 then why am I having so much trouble getting it to work and still
unable to get answers from your tech support people?
What is your plan to help me get this resolved and in what time frame.

After much digging around and phone calls. I found that the Ultrastor's
exclusion switches do not work like the rest. If you use an invalid switch on
the line they are all rendered useless, syntax must be exact.
try excluding all IDs. The /A:0 paramter must be repeated.
/A:0 /!DM:0 /!SM:0 /A:0 /!DM:1 /!SM:1 /A:0 /!DM:2 /!SM:2 /A:0 /!DM:3
/!SM:3…….etc
As you can see, this is much different from standard practices. I am not
certain if there is any standard for these switches though or if it is up to
the controller manufacturer to create their own set. Could you try this and
let me know the results.

I have already tried:
/A:0 /!DM:6 /!SM:6 (Optical is ID:6, Adapter ID:0)
/A:0/!DM:6/!SM:6 (No space between parms)
/A:0 /!DM:6 /!SM:6 /!DM:1 /!SM:1 (NEC CD-ROM = ID:1)
/A:0 /!DM:6 /!SM:6 /A:0 /!DM:1 /!SM:1
/A:0 /!DM:2,6 /!SM:2,6
All above attempts have not produced anything other than the Ultrastor 34F
being listed by scanscsi program.
I have not tried excluding all id's i.e. /a:0 /!dm:0 … /!sm:7
but WHY should I have to exculde anything other than the Optical drive?
also I will not be able to try this out until late Friday evening.
Are you still going to continue to try and resolve this problem or will you
wait until you know the results of my testing Friday evening? The reason I ask
is because I would like to know what approach you are using to resolve this
problem. What happens when this test does not work? You probably will not get
the results until next week, and another week is going to go by without a
resoultiuon.
Is it time for Corel to conduct another test under OS/2 with this equipment
configuration? I really need to be assured that this configuration works.
I have to apologize about the tone of the messages, but I am getting irritated.

I can understand the tone, I am at wits end here as well. I was down in the
LAB yesterday talking with the QA technician who was responsible for the
controller. We went over his notes and found nothing that would indicate the
problems that you are experiencing. He had no problems with the controller
other than the non standard exclusion switches.
I am asking you to exclude all the IDs because we have little left to try and
it is not something that will take a great deal of time (not saying that we
have all the time in the world <grin>). We, at this point are not even getting
to the point where our software can interface with your configuration. We
interface at the ASPI layer. If there is something wrong from the hardware to
this layer, we will not be able to communicate with the controller. We know
our ASPI interface is working (it has been tested time and time again with
different controllers), so the problem must lie from that point down towards
the hardware.
I will request that they put together the system together again with your exact
SCSI configuration.
