Hi Andrew, You can get QuickTime for Windows in one of the MacIntosh Forums (MACDEV?), can't remember which one, the files are QTDSK1.ZIP and QTDSK2.ZIP. One of the problems though, is the PC bawks at the MAC Header on the file, I haven't found many QT movies that don't have the MAC Header.

There are also programs to uncompress .SIT and .SEA files (MAC-type .ZIP equivalants). BTW, is there a DOS based Quicktime reader/converter?? I've found DOS based AVI and .MPG readers, but nothing yet for QT. Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff, When I post the message, I logged back on and started hunting for som UNSIT programs and found 4 versions, the early version I had didn't split the file into its resource fork and data fork. I've now got UNSIT v3 by Brian Vechi and UNSTUFF v1.1 by Jody Nickel both of which split the resource and the data. DOS base QT Player? Don't know, but the QuickTime for Windows has some source code for a player so it shouldn't be to difficult for someone!! Colin 😉

Hi Andrew, I've checked, and in my \QTW\BIN directory there are a couple of 'em: QTMOVIE.VBX and QTPIC.VBX, theres also assembler, basic and c/c++ files aswell. Colin 😉

>Can the pc run Quicktime animations? If so What do I need ? Yup, you need Apple Quicktime for Windows. It comes on many IBM game CDs, as a lot of those use it. As a note, MS just sent me a CD about making CDs. ALL the anims are QTs. <laugh>. Most people do feel they work better than AVIs. Bri

Tim, I took your advice to Andrew and went EDRIVE and got their EVIEW.EXE. SETUP would not run so I had to manually expand all of the files. I finally got the program to load, but when I selected a movie it said something like Unable to Open Movie! Most QT files end in .mov" Unquote. This despite the files I was trying to see DID end in .mov and presumably WERE QT files. Any ideas? Best, Leon Malinofsky

If so then I would suspect that the other movies that you're trying to play may not be 'flattened' for QuickTime For Windows. >> got their EVIEW.EXE. << btw…I wrote it for them. >> any advantages << The main advantage is cross platform compatibility. If you're doing a hybrid disk then is the way to go. The draw backs are more rigid hardware requirements. Tim, I have gotten a couple of hybrid disk the past few months and couldn't get any of them to work without completely changing my Windows setup. Mainly going to a 256 color 640×480 mode. Some of them still gave me the error message that QTW wasn't loaded. Yet It was loaded and I could run the QT movies examples. Whaat is the trick? Are the movies only cross platform one way? Andrew
