#Creating .MOD samples
5 messages in this thread
I've been working with SCREAMTRACKER 3.01, I was wondering if anyone
else out there uses this program and if they have any tips for
creating samples or know of any programs that do.
Currently I record the sample in CTWAVE for Windows, then convert it
to a .VOC using the WAV2VOC prog that comes with the SB16, I then
convert it to the old style .VOC the ST3 recognizes. This is a real
hassle, so if anyone has any advice or knows of any short cuts, the
info would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like you've got a more direct route into ST3 than I do. I've had no luck
going straight in. I'm on a GUS, and the order of loading samples in ST3 seems
to be really critical, later samples sometimes corrupt older ones. Sometimes
not. Really screwy. So I load the samples into another tracker that's got a
decent import, GusTracker, save it out as a MOD, and load that into ST3.
ST3 will also take signed 8 bit RAW files with the extension SND.
My best advice for dealing with ST3, however, to drop it and move to
FastTracker 2. FT2's just out, it's here in the lib, and it's great.
Triton broke away from the format in some critical ways, for instance
panning is stored in the instrument, not applied to the track, but
they're all good ways. It's got a sampler and editor built in, very
good import, handles 16 bit samples, has MIDI I/O with optional
quantization so you can play on a real keyboard. It's much more like
a real sequencer than any tracker I've ever seen.
Best of all, it's not a dead program, like ST3.
HI Dan,

Yes… Maybe, but the program is dead on my Soundblaster (I own 2 different)
and my Pro Audio Spectium 16…

I'd heard about it not working on PAS, but you're the first I've heard say it
wouldn't do SB. I'll have to try on my kid's machine. I really like FT2 so far.
Well, I'll test it on a original Soundblaster Pro II and Soundblaste Pro I
tonight.. We'll see if it only crashes on my vanilla-SB's.
At the moment I'm more than happy with ST3.

Nils
