I've been thinking that maybe if enough of us users of AM were to create a petition to software development companies, if we might be able to show them that there is enough of a market for effects modules for them to produce some. From what I understand, 3D Studio and the IPAS effects are created by The Yost Group. Adobe Photoshop Filters, Kai's Power Tools, and Aldus Gallery Effects are all able to be applied over time, albiet in a 2D environment. Most of the code would already seem to written for most effects. If 10 or 20 thousand people were to hand these and other companies a signed request for development, I wonder what their reaction would be? Michael S. Flynn

Michael, I already put in my request for photoshop filters over time, Steve does listen<G>. Some else suggested a great workaround for now, do your filtering to your texture maps in a program that supports that (premeire for example), then apply the numbered Targas and viola!, your texture changes over time. The suggestion I heard was a way to do dialating pupils, Very Cool!!! Although, I still think that adding the ability to use photoshop filters would be an exellent marketing feature. I too am anxiously awaiting particles/special effects in Animation:Master, along with font conversion/extrusion/beveling. For some reason, blowing up someones logo is one of the most common requests I get?! Second to that is to animate the company logo, "Like the dancing cars…". Jim Jonah

Jim, I was the one who suggested using Premeire. A lot of my concerns about 3rd party effects center around the fact that I know people who will shell out the cash for 3D Studio just because it is more well known and has many more features. I am waiting to see what changes are available in AM 3.0. In a lot of ways, AM is a step or three ahead of other 3D applications, but it is also lacking in some areas, mostly in the SCULPTURE module. I am taking a serious look at moving to Real 3D for Windows. It is about $1,300 and offers quite a bit. As more and more people realize that doing 3D animation is becoming less and less expensive, they are going to want to buy applications that can do what they see on TV and the movies. I would like to see AM users flood the Highway with top notch images and animations to get peoples attention. The more product Hash can sell, then the more features they can add. I'm going to do my part to support them all I can, but I will have to make any application choices based on what I need and who can provide it. Michael S. Flynn

Michael, Oppss! And what a great suggestion it is! <G> I also think A:M is far more advanced than people give it credit, BUT I also now how important Good Advertising/Marketing is (I work at a large Advertising Agency). So I agree that PS plug-ins would be a Great marketing feature (I think I'm repeating myself here… sorry). Did you see the new Compuserve CD? There are some EXCELLENT A:M animations on the CD!!!! That, to me, is good marketing, its just what Hash needs. <G> Jim Jonah

Jim, No, I haven't seen the CD yet, but I'll try and check it out. Michael S. Flynn

Ooooh..I gotta try that…I was just wondering how to do that and was going to watch the tapes over again to see if there were tips in decal. BTW, Joe Krause tells me that Dale Myers finally got excited about A:M. Seems somebody got him a video demo or told him about it. I've never had a chance to play the Playmation video at the Animation SIG. It'll be interesting to see if he says something about it next meeting. Hope you can make it. Also, I saw the animation of Rod's head on the CompuServe CD-ROM. It is great! I haven't had time to get your copy of the tape you wanted! 🙁 Hopefully, soon… Kevin

Kevin, Oh Man, I was gonna' bring the new A:M demo tape and ask to play it at the next meeting, I'll bring it just in case he hasn't seen it, or isn't planning on showing it. Also, I'll make of copy for you (If it's OK with Steve…, unless he would rather send you one…) Michaels texture ideas opens up some Very Interesting Options :). Wasn't it GREAT to see A:M so heavily represented on the CD? Rod's Head is awesome, everyone I show that to is blown away! And, Yes, I'll be at the next meeting, BTW When is it? Thanks, Jim Jonah

Steve…It is a great CD-ROM… Re: the tape.. feel free to send me the copies to distribute if you'd like. There's generally around 20-30 people at each meeting and they'd all probably love to see it. My experience has been that the two hours of the meeting fly by so I doubt much could be shown, besides…viewing isn't that optimal…the big screen monitor is rather dim and the store lights where the meeting is held have to stay on…we have better luck when one of the smaller monitors used for editing is on…but you can't always count on it. Steve, Since Kevin Sanderson is a member of the SIG group (I'm a new comer), it make more sense to take Kevin up on his offer of playing and passing out tapes, (more credible coming from a member). I'm showing the tape to all of my friends, they love it, you may be getting some calls soon! Jim Jonah

Jim…that's the neat thing about the Animation SIG…no membership bull…you just show up and add what you can to the group. I've only been to 2 more meetings than you! Granted, they're a bit more familiar with me, but you could become familiar real fast with some of your work. See ya there! Kevin

Yeah, it is great about A:M being on the CD-ROM…and this seems to be the busiest section of this forum. The meetings are always the third Thursday of the month…so, mark down 11/17! See ya there, Jim! Kevin
