#Architectural clarity

Anyone….
I watch those videos and am amazed at the clarity of thoe
architectural renderings. Even at a "great" distance. Whenever I
render an archirectural <oops about the spelling> scene it looks
rather blurry unless you're right up on an object. I turned motion
blur off and am rendering to the PAR. No distance cueing or fog.
sometimes the edges have jaggies out the <ying yang>. I've got
anti-aliasing on using a couple omni lights placed around the scene.
The most prominent material is a Stucco with Stucco.sxp as a bump
map. Real low bump setting around 2.
I would like to get some tips from some of you pro's out there about
how to get real high quality looking images when rendering even still
images. Pixel size? Alpha on?
I don't know what else to do. It looks like crap being blurry unless
close up.

I'm not sure if your complaint about the bluriness is due to the
image-generation process, the recording process, or both. Having said
that, for animation – there's always a trade-off decision to be made
regarding texture & edge sharpness vs. motion artefacts (edge-crawl,
texture scintilliation, temporal aliasing). Experiment with:
1) Designing textures with this in mind.
2) Experiment with the 3DS.set Texture-Sharpness parameter.
3) Experiment with filter types (mip-map / summed-area) & weights
(blur).
4) Experiment with the 3DS.set Pixel-Size parameter (you can exceed
1.5). Also, experiment with the Filter-Kernel parameter (Bartlett's
sharper).
5) Experiment with Scene & Object Motion Blur parameters.
6) Frame your shots to avoid any potentially difficult areas, if
possible.
7) Take caution with lighting to avoid potential aliasing problems
(such as some back-lighting cases).
8) Especially make sure the gamma-correction is "right" for the
output medium (this can wreck 'ideal' antialiasing quality). Also
take care in choosing/correcting colors for video.
9) Field-render whenever possible in most cases.
10) Find the ideal trade-off parameters using all of the
above…..experiment. Every scene is different.
As far as *_maintaining_* image clarity & avoiding artefacting through
the recording processes down to the final distribution
copies…..it's a matter of:
1) Using high-quality equipment throughout the master/dub chain.
2) Keeping the signal in the digital domain as long as possible.
3) Maintaining proper signal levels, etc..
4) Using high-quality tape.
For stills, it's a different story. Experiment with the applicable
parameters above, without the necessity of worrying about the motion
artefacts. If the image is at a high enough resolution, you might
even turn antialiasing & map filtering off….or way down.
That's about all I can think of to tell ya'.
