I have a CSA MMR (as I"ve mentioned above) and with a benchmark tester AIB
my system rates faster than an Amiga 3000 25mhz system.
I'm not surprised, Joe. If nothing else, your board probably has faster
RAM than that supplied by Commodore in the 3000.
I want a 3000, but sometimes debate with myself that perhaps an MMR board
would be what I need and save my bank account. As involved with video as I
am now, I need the extra speed. Thanks for the input!

I also have a MMR 030/33 mhz (waiting for the memory board though 🙂 ).
It works great even without the memory although not as fast as I'd
expected. I realized after a while that in order to read 32 bits
intructions from 16 bit memory, the computer has to first slow down to 7
mhz *and* read twice to get 32 bits intructions. Well, at least I'll get
the memory by next week.
I'd like to warn some owners of A590 though. This is what I have and
even though the MMR works fine in 030 mode, it just won't work in 68000
mode when the harddisk is set to boot!!!! (funny, I'd expect the 030 not to
work but it's the contrary). If I set the autoboot to off, it works just
fine. This leads me and CSA (and Creative Computer) to believe that the
ROMs installed in my A590 my contains bugs (as it's been known to have).
I'll order the new revisions and let you guys know if it fixed the problem.

forum about an A590 replacement ROM. I hope your 32-bit RAM blows you
away!! 🙂
Chris, I'll let you know as soon as I get them… if I'm not blown away
(grin). Should be around this week or next one at most for both RAMs &
ROMs.

You know, I think I may have settled on the idea of getting the MMR
instead of the A3000 (at least for the forsee-able future). Given that CPU
thoughput would be slightly higher, and that my main reason for upgrading
is for a faster CPU for handling images/anims generated for a device like
HAM-E, I think an A3000 may be an overkill investment for me right now.
Looking at the prices, the 25MHz model seems to be the best
price/performance deal, so I'll go after that unless the 33MHz model drops
in price. We'll have to see…

Your reasoning was exactly the same as mine. While I do not depend on video
and graphics work for my livlihood, I do enjoy doing it and the faster I
can complete a task the better I feel. I also have a HAM-E device, and love
it. I believe its the best thing on the market right now for the Amiga.
I bought my MMR w/ 25mhz 030, 25mhz 882, and 4 megs of 80ns RAM for
$1615.00through ESI.

Heck, just loading and saving 24-bit IFF files can be murder, never mind
image processing. My 7MHz 68010 1MB CHIP / 2MB Fast system cannot give me
much better than 10- or 15fps when playing hires 4 plane Anim-format
animation, and we all know that's the CPU's fault.
It's also the "fault" of the Amiga's chip ram design… when running four
bitplanes in hires the processors (any type of processor) access to the
chip ram is severely limited; it can only get in there during sync and
blanking – in other words, it spends a great deal of time waiting, and NOT
updating anything. A faster processor really helps because it gets more
done in the short time that the ram IS avaialable to it.
For this to change, the entire custom chip set would have to be redesigned
to handle a faster bus, and that's not been done in any released machine to
date.

Christopher, I paid 799$ for the 33mhz model. Not that expensive except
maybe for the 882 33mhz which is slightly higher then the 25mhz model.
