Troubled NoteBook…

I'm having another problem with NoteBook (v1.01). I typed in some notes
yesterday. This morning when I opened the notebook file again one line is
about 2/3rd's occluded by what looks to be boxes with X's. I did not put
these there. I selected the page and started to edit the line. There is
text under the boxes, but I can't get rid of the boxes. Any ideas? The
text that is occluded isn't special, but I hope this sort of thing isn't a
regular occurence.

It shouldn't be – can you upload the notebook to me? I'd like to see this
problem, it'll help a lot to fix it.
I've not seen this, either.

I just uploaded a 709 byte binary file via E-Mail to you. The file,
using LZ, will expand into NELSON.PG. It is the single page that currently
exhibits the problem. I did test that the page still exhibited the problem
after being uncrunched.
Be interested to know what you discover. I can select the garbage only
in the context of selecting the paragraph. I cannot select the boxes
alone.

I actually enjoy banging on programs. If the little effort I expend
enhances your ability to improve the product, it still isn't enough to
repay the Amiga community for the wonderful things that it has made
possible for me.
Talk to BobR about my beta testing. Hell, I even fill out paper work!
As a programmer myself I wouldn't dream of expecting anyone to find a bug
on the basis of a report to-wit, "… it doesn't work right!" My only
problem is that I am unable to put forth a large concentrated effort. With
two young sons I am no longer able to just 'disappear' for a "few" hours…
except after they have gone to bed… 9-)

I understand. Well, we appreciate anything you can tell us that includes
details. Nothing is as nice a as a good bug report, one that leads to right
to reproducing the problems. And conversely, nothing is as frustrating as a
bug report of the form "It don't work right".

One of the letters on the wall at Syndesis says "Your software doesn't work
at all, and I just wasted 30 cents to tell you that." End of letter. What
a customer… after a phone call, he couldn't really tell us what was
wrong, or what problems he was having.
That must have been a fabulous moment, when you first read that. :^) I know
just how you felt…
We've got a ClickFAX customer who called us repeatedly for every little
issue you can imagine. No problem, as far as it goes. Now, this absolutely
moronic "review" in AmigaWorld comes out, and we get a letter from thes3e
same people saying they can't figure it out, and that they've "been DTP
users for years" and so expect to be able to, ergo it's the fault of the
software.
The P.S. to this is that these people called us up _repeatedly_ to ask us
how to do the simplest operations imaginable in…. no, not ClickFAX –
PageStream! Experts, my bunions.
Luckily, most of our customers are a lot smarter than these folk.

Here's another report for you. Load a notebook, or create one. Trash
the last page so that you are now sitting at "End Of Book". Click NoteBook
into Tiny Window. Click it back to active. Viola'! Where are the trash
can gadgets? There is a darkened square. And each gadget is still there.
You can verify that by clicking in their areas. But the gadgets are not
displayed. Not a big problem, but worth a note in your book. 9-)

Ben, I found an AmigaWorld at the grocery store last night and quickly
skimmed their article on Whap!. They had several points incorrect (price
being one of them). I think they just slip brain out of gear and type when
writing articles. Thank Darwin that the Tech Journal is on a much higher
plane.

Well, each article is written by a different person. There's room for
"Excellence By Accident", as long as the editors don't actually hurt
something (judging by the complete lack of technical editing on the review
of ClickFAX, I don't think they would… I think they just check spelling
and the like).
Haven't seen a tech journal in a while…. hmmm.

Ben, Because of the lack of technical acuity in AmigaWorld, I don't
subscribe or otherwise purchase the magazine. Every couple of months I'll
flip through an issue if I happen to see it at the grocery store.

to that AW article that bemoans the Whap! documentaion.

Just one of the many fabulous moments. Perry showed me a letter they
received at ASDG, and a word that I (probably incorrectly) remember as
"leppy bro" has become the generic description of letters that *seem* to be
written in English, and then suddenly stop… Maybe Perry can chime in
here with the real text of the letter. Now when we read a letter from an
enthusiastic customer who, to their credit, try to converse in English, we
refer to it as a "leppy bro" letter.
Another favorite of mine is when someone calls on the phone to ask which 3D
program I like the best, or what do I think of Imagine, or XYZ, …
Yeah… and they probably have just as much trouble with my spanish, or
your japanese, neh?
