#HD Hard error help!

Greetings,
I have a supra hard drive. It is great! But I just installed a word
processor, and when I went to load it, DOS came and said that There is a
read write error on my harddrive. I tried retry and DOS came back with the
same result. Can this mean that there is a hard error on my HD? If so, are
there any PD programs to find the bad spots on the disk?
If not what are some programs that can help me? Thanx in advance

FIXDISK seems like it'll be a good partner for DiskSalv. It can
recover some information from unreadable tracks on a disk. It has
other features that DiskSalv doesn't, but doesn't include everything
that DiskSalv can do.
You have to run this from within a shell window and use the DOOM switch to
get it to work with hard drives of 40MB or more.
RAM:> Run Fixdisk doom.
It has saved me before I had one SyQuest cartridge that wouldn't even be
seem as an Amiga formatted disk and it fixed it. I recommend trying to
backup before using it or any disk fixer utility. There is also a
commercial program called Quarterback Tools version 1.5 that could fix it.
Another newer product as yet to be reviewed (don't know if it has shipped)
is Ami-Back Tools.

wondering if there is a program that would find bad spots on the disk and
tell DOS not to use them in the future I was looking for something like
PCTOOLS for IBM. Thanx.
Quarterback Tools is suppose to be able to map out bad blocks on a hard
disk. I would imagine that AMI-BACK Tools will also do it. My hard drive
controller software also will map the bad blocks. I suggest you check the
software that came with your controller card and see if it has this
feature. Not sure if there is something in the libraries that does that.

Chris, do you know of any HD tool that can bring back a bad CRC on a
sector? I've yet to find anything that'll do this, except a reformat…
I've run into this a few times with new users shutting off machines a bit
too early…
