#Novell CD-ROM drivers

I'm the administrator for our Novell 3.11 network (I inherited the job).
We have a CD-ROM already installed on the server, but no drivers (other
than DOS ones) are there. Can anybody suggest some NLMs that I can buy so
that I can make the drive accessible? BTW, price *is* important. I've
seen a few ads for $2000+. Gulp.

There is Merridian, On-line Systems, MDI and Corel to choose from. They
usually frequent this forum from time to time.
And corel has their own forum on Compuserve (GO COREL)

We here at Corel may be able to help you… we offer a SCSI solution for
DOS, Windows, OS/2 -and- Novell (all in the same package) for $99
(suggested U.S. list price). Yes, that's $99, as in ninety-nine. Our
requirements are that you are using an ASPI compatible card, preferably one
we've finished certification on (Buslogic 5xx, 6xx, or 7xx series,
Ultrastor 14f, or Adaptec 154x cards have all passed our certification
tests for Novell, and more are on the way…), and that you are using a
CD-ROM we've written a driver for <grin>. If you drop by the Corel forum
(go Corel) I can fill you in on the details. Hope this is useful!

Have you certified any DPT SCSI cards?

The DPT cards have not completed certification yet, although we do have
several going through the testing program. I'll be posting notes as soon
as I hear some word regarding them. Thanks for the interest!

What's your $99 package called? I assume I can get it at my neighborhood

The package is called CorelSCSI!, and is available through several
distributors in the U.S., including Ingram Micro, Tech Data, Calabco, and
many others. Let me know if you need any assistance finding it!

The OPTI-NET NLM is a full featured, high performance product that can be
used to share CD-ROMs. List price for a 100 user license is $1495. Here
are just a few key feature comparison points when evaluating the OPTI-NET
NLM versus the CorelSCSI! product:
OPTI-NET includes a licensed copy of the Microsoft Extensions for each
networked CD-ROM user. The Extensions list for $50. The CorelSCSI!
product requires the Extensions for each user, but does not provide the
licenses to you.
OPTI-NET can share CD-ROMs from your server without requiring a connection
for each user. The CorelSCSI! product requires each user to both load the
NETX shell and log in to the network.
The OPTI-NET workstation software can be loaded when needed and removed
from memory when your session is complete. The CorelSCSI! product
requires the networked CD-ROM device driver (in .SYS form) to be loaded at
all times, and cannot remove itself or the Extensions from memory.
Not to belabor the point, but you get what you pay for…
