Hello,
I'm new here. I'm glad to see that there is an area for earth science. I think
that it's an important area that doesn't get the attention that it deserves.

Steven – A gracious welcome to you! We are an eclectic bunch here covering a
variety of disciplines and interests. You will find quite a few interested in
mineralogy, slightly fewer into fossils (such as me), some X-Ray
diffractionists , lapidarists, structural geologists, petroleum geologists and
many many others.
We try to have a quarterly conference in which general topics are discussed. It
is relatively informal, usually quite informative and always entertaining. The
next episode airs January 9th in conference room 8.
Please introduce yourself and your interests, the messages you receive will be
many and enticing.

I'm not a geologist, but instead a mining engineer. I have a keen interest in
geology though. I am currently working on my masters degree in mining.

Yeah, somehow I see a connection between mining and geology, just a bit. One
of the areas I recognize as one that I need to develop in is stratigraphy. In
Washington State, other than the Columbia flood basalts, there are not very
many exposures nice and neat. Rather, there are elaborate contorted sediments
that have ridden down the subduction elevator and then returned in a somewhat
altered state.
And with all the darn trees, you can't follow a facie easily. The desert has
its advantages.

I'm an exploration geologist interested in metals and industrial minerals. I
also dabble in the more esoteric geological stuff (Just Kidding Guys!). What's
your geological interest?

I'm not a geologist. I'm a mining engineer. I'm currently working on my masters
degree in mining engineering. What kind of metals and industrial minerals? I
went to school up in the Copper Country of Michigan, and was always off chasing
after old rock piles to hunt around on.

I am presently interested in gold, PGE's, cobalt, REE's, wollastonite, talc,
nepheline syenite, and of course diamonds. What's your masters project? I've
got a few freinds stuck in mining (rock mechanics) Ph.Ds at McGill U. I took
alot of master's level mining courses, but they were primarily economics and
feasibility oriented. Where you at?

I'm at the University of Kentucky. My masters project will be in mineral
benificiation. Right now I'm working out at the Center of Applied Energy
Research that is operated by UK. It sounds like you are pretty busy if you are
looking for that many minerals. What area do you operate in?
