First, i would like to thank all the wonderful people who responded to my
problem. I received many practical and otherwise unknown options. After
careful consideration, i have decided to try adding the AT strip to the
motherboard to create another 16 bit slot. This will be quite a task since my
A2000 was injected with steroids and bristles with armament. But now my
questions is:
WHERE DO I GET AN AT SOLDER IN SOCKET???
i've looked in all me computer and electronics catalogs with no luck. called
around and salespeople laugh at me. i'm sure i can get an old motherboard
somewhere and desolder, but can't i just buy one new?
Also, has anyone been able to transfer a 2000 motherboard to an IBM tower case.
It looks as if it would fit, and i sure don't want to pay 3 times as much for
the bomac tower, which is essentially the same as a regular ibm case. Any
suggestions? (i figure i might as well do this if i'm gonna yank the
motherboard anyway).

I just used a connector for the XT portion of the bus (I think 66 pins) and
cut it down. When you cut it just cut it back a little longer than necessary
and install it with the finished side toward the other connector.
The most difficult part of installing the connector was cleaning the solder out
of the holes on the motherboard. Get a good solder sucker, and be careful not
to put to much heat to the pads. I resorted to drilling the board rather than
destroy the pads with too much heat. It was especially difficult to desolder
the ground pin/hole.
I hope this helps and as with any hardware mod, I assume no responsiblity if
this advice gets you into any hot water. If you don't think you can do it, then
take it to a shop.

Radio shack sells a full length AT BUS solder in socket for under $5. Cut
off the portion you don't need with a hacksaw and you are ready to solder
it in. The holes on my machine were completely clear and open so the
actual soldering for both slots was a 10 minute propostion. It was VERY
easy to do.
