Just in time for X-mass we have ordered 3ds Release 3. It's also due to arrive just in the middle of a large project, which raises a few questions: 1. What is the optimum system memory needed to run Release 3 (we only have 8 meg and need to upgrade, but how much should I add?) 2. We will be converting DXF files created on AutoCadd, are there any changes in the new release that could interfere with our existing work if I install the new version. 3. What is the best approach to converting AutoCadd DXF files to 3DS, in the past we have encountered some rendering problems with the vertices and have had to do some reconstruction. What's the cleanest way to transport and convert DXF's to 3DS format? Thank you for your help I'm looking forward to Release 3

Andy, congratulations and merry 3ds3 Xmas! 1. You might get by with 8mb RAM if you were only doing logos and rendering at 320×200. For architecture the minimum would be 16mb for simple stuff. 3ds3 does use more memory than 3ds2, but it's worth it. 2. No. Just keep a copy of r2 on your systems for contingency purposes. 3. I don't think DXF loading is much different. I usually load by layer as a general rule of thumb.

Hello Andy, Check out the index of the 3ds 3 reference manual under .DXF… There are tips and tricks that must all be read. Jonas[adesk]
