#ACAD 13 and 3DS r4

Gary, I was recently at an AutoCAD/3DSr4 Seminar. I must say I was very impressed with the new release of 3DS. It has some great new features. The Inverse Kinematics were impressive. I have a couple of questions though. 1. How does 3DS r4 handle the new NURBS arcs, circle, splines etc. with respect to importation into the 2D Shaper?? 2. What exactly is the read/write capability with 3DSIN|3DSOUT in ACAD 13? 3. Are any of the ACIS information importable into 3DS r4? Any information will be appreciated? Great Job. -Mike

To export the new R13 entities do the following: Saveas12, Insert, (spline if desired) and DXFOUT. >>2. What exactly is the read/write capability with 3DSIN|3DSOUT in ACAD 13? Wow! – a bit too detailed to go into here <g>. In a nutshell: w/ 3DSIN you get everything that AutoVision understands; w/ 3DSOUT you get the ACIS entities and other entites according to the AutoVision method of export (which differs from the traditional DXF). >>3. Are any of the ACIS information importable into 3DS r4? ACIS entities are exportable directly via R13's 3DSOUT. – Phil

Phillip, What is the difference between the ACIS info and the "Autovsion method which differs than DXF" I assume that the NURBS info gets translated into mesh geometry. -Mike

Yes, the ACIS entites are meshed upon 3DSOUT export, with the mesh density being contorlled by the FACETRES variable. (it's actually the ONLY way to physcially mesh an ACIS entitiy). – Phil
