#The Studio
3 messages in this thread
Wolf,
I have the Studio and I am using the DeskDriver4C driver with my HP 540,
and it works great with everything except Final Copy II (both release 1 &
2) so I purchased Final Writer this week and I am getting the same
results.
When I print a page using the default font size, the page prints only
about 70% of the full size of the page and the type is not that good. It
also has a tendency of crashing the system at about 50% completion of the
job. When I change the print driver to the HP500c Driver it prints fine.
I have gone thru the manual (pages 36-48) and made sure that I have
everything set the way you recommend and it is still doing the same thing.
All of the other programs I have print great expect the stuff from
Softwood, is there a know bug in there software?
My system is as follows
A2000
a2620 with 4 megs
trifecta controller with 2 megs
420 Conner HD (IDE)
2- CD-Roms
O/S 2.1 & DLG-Pro (running a BBS system)
MultiFace III (printer is connected to the Amiga, and not the Multi-face
at this time)
Thanks for the help

No, there is no known bug and in the Studio software and we did lot's of
tests with DJ560 and DJ500C and FC/FW lately on various machines. The
Studio driver also fixes some bugs in the way FW prints (no empty
pages,…). There is not much that can lead to a crash caused by a bug in
the driver.
I think this only the happened in minor 3 cases in all the >100 driver
revisions I wrote in the past years for various manufacturers.
But this doesn't help you… So, can you use/know SegTracker and Enforcer?
Maybe they indicate to me who's at fault? Next, send me the first digits
of your serial number as PRIVATE MAIL. Also, what do you mean with manual
page 36-48??? Type mistake? The chapter about your drivers goes from 49
till 62. Using Final Writer and Final Copy in general is described on page
188.
And in order to help you further, I need more info. Please, follow the
manual (I wrote several times I need a "Report" and more info in order to
help. Why not mail me the FW document you print). As said, I have lot's of
FW/FC users without problems. This doesn't make sure there is no bug in
the driver… but it's just very unlikely.
The bug sounds like a memory problem to me. However, it's very strange. I
had similar reports from other users (even when NOT using a Studio
drivers). The Studio driver does need more memory for code, error
diffusion and compression buffer and these things. You can try disabling
the compression method of the driver in order to safe memory… but I
doubt this is the solution.
So please, send me the FW document and the Report dump and I'll try the
stuff here on different machines and hopefully I find a machine crashing
so I can find the cause. Otherwise it's getting very strange (as usual?).
Also, how does it come you use the DeskDriver4C on your 540? The
installation process will install the DeskDriver for 540 users and I can't
see how someone can make a fault here during installation as the 540 is
listed. Is it possible you don't use an english Studio V2 version? The 540
is not offered in the German version and your message becomes a different
meaning…

Wolf;
I will go dig up the disk with the serial number on it, and send you mail
(Private) and I will send you a copy of what it is doing…
