Hmmm. Many professional photofinishing labs provide this service. And many one-hour labs will play middle-man between you and a service provider. Check your local yellow pages under photofinishing and let your fingers do the walking. Cost varies significantly depending on the resolution you require, whether the film is processed and mounted, and the Photo-CD imaging technology used. Photo-CD comes in two formats, pro and consumer with the pro format offering increased resolution. The cheapest way to go is 3000X2000 resolution images on the consumer grade CD using the consumer grade imaging technology. In Vancouver, for unprocessed 36 exp. 35mm slide film I've seen prices as low as $27 (all dollar values in Canadian funds) + $10 for the Photo-CD disk which stores approximately 100 images. This price includes processing the slides. Price per image rises dramatically (doubles or more) if you've 1> already processed the film or, gadzooks! 2> mounted the slides or don't want _all_ the images from a roll put on CD. Pro-CDs cost aprox. $25 ea. and prices go as high as $3/image if you've mounted the slides or don't want the whole roll on CD. I believe a resolution of 6000X4000 is possible on these but could be mistaken. You can also elect to use 3000@2000 resolution in this format, but you'll still pay $25 for the disk and per image costs are higher than the consumer technology. I'm not certain how many images of either resolution the Pro CD can hold. Important Note: you don't have to fill the Photo-CD with 100 images on the first shot. You can bring the CD back with your next roll of film and the new images can be added to it. Just make certain your CDROM drive is 'multisession' or it won't be able to find the images added in these additional 'sessions'. Have fun. Patrick.

There are a number of services which will do this, normally to what is called a Kodak PHOTO-CD. Your yellow-pages should list these under PHOTO. You can also scan the photos in yourself and give them to a CD-ROM mastering service. The advantage here is that you make them look exactly the way you want them. Nikon manufactures the COOLSCAN which is available in both internal (IBM-type PC) and external (Mac and IBM) versions. It is an excellent scanner. Once you have your slides in the way you want them, get them put onto a CD-ROM. The COOLSCAN is available for under $2000. If you want you can even get a CD-ROM recorder and make the CD yourself. If you are going to be dealing in large quantities this may be appealing. I'll make sure that my review of the COOLSCAN gets into Library 2 shortly.
