I just have to jump in here!! You state:

Wrong. We little old comsumers buy what we are "hyped" to buy. We buy
what is advertised and "sold" to us. Look at Beta vs VHS. No my friend,
Amiga didn't die because is was an inferior product. It died because more
money was thrown at a vastly inferior product. AND WE BOUGHT IT!
Then you, my friend, are part of the problem if you buy what the market
spoon-feeds you. And get your information straight. I never said that the Amiga
was an inferior product. If it was, I wouldn't own one. The focus of this
argument is competition. Whatever suits the market and is supported properly
will dominate said market. The message that started this debate suggested that
Amiga clones would destroy the Amiga because inferior machines would enter the
market place. I gave the benefit of the doubt to Amiga-users and stated that
they would weed-out the inferior products and they would drop-out of the
market. However, if you are representative of the majority of Amiga users (and
I hope you are not) then maybe clones of Amiga machines are not a good idea.
Relax. We ALL buy what the market feeds us. From the Car we drive to the
food we eat. To the cheap clones we buy. I agree with you that we need
cheap clones in the Amiga marketplace. I own a 1000 (bought in 1885) two
2000's, a 3000 and a CDTV. I have more Amigas in my house than there are
in the town I live in, but I am a SMALL minority. I used to try to sell
the Amiga to friends but no more. It is impossible to point out the good
points of the machine when they can't buy software, hardware not to be
seen, no repair shops, don't see'm at work, and on an on. The major
portion of the world is not computer literate. They buy what they are
sold. As in advertising. Not because they are stupid, but because they
don't know. If I hadn't been interested in computers enough to explore
the possiblities, I would have owned some 8088 clone. Then a 286, then a
386, then a 486…….
If the masses could choose the operating system they actually wanted,
do you honestly think they would buy window?? Of course not. I stand by
what I said. The Amiga lost the fight because it was never a fight about
technology, it was a fight about marketing.

Yep, and we had it rough in those days, too. Why I can remember trying
to get my vinyl cutter to follow the HPGL, but the rotten sod just
kept complaining that it wasn't the King's English and would slice it
into little doilys.
