Sorry about the reference to the thunderclap but it was the first thing that it sounded to us so has thus stuck. I took my copy back to the store from which I purchased it (Super Software in Richmond B.C) and they immediately swapped it with a new one. I took the new one home and this one works. The thing that adds to the mystery is that on my way to the store I stopped by at a friends house who also has an Amiga and tried the disk on his system and it worked!. I did neglect to mention that to the people at the store thinking that they might say that it is my machine rather than the software. My friend's Amiga is a newer model than my old system and has the newer disk drives in it ( you can tell from the eject action if they are newer models) so maybe his is more tolerant of diskette errors. Oh well the program is running and the kids are happy again. BTW the kids also love Deluxe Paint and have taught me a few things about it. I would like it if the program would check if there are drawers on DF1 and use those as default pictures and brushes rather than defaulting to DF0: I realize that you can change the default after you load but they forget and it is REALLY to slip from LOAD to SAVE on the HOT BOX.

Perhaps the CP wasn't at fault, but without the CP, a user could make a backup, change preferences, ( a necessity ), and not have to go through the hassles of exchanging the disk. Two of my friends have clobbered pictures on DPaint, and are less than thriled by the CP on it. One tried to re-save VENUS back to the master disk, without success, and luckily, without further damage.

Dear E/A….don't the instructions in the manual for DPaint specifically explain HOW to change the Preferences file on the original disk….and here you say that "it is a BAD IDEA (your emphasis) to put new preferences on a product disk…." How is one supposed to customize their D/Paint (which is a LOT more expen$ive than Archon) for their specific printer, or even center the screen if they don't change preferences and re-save it to the original disk? I guess you could USE instead of SAVE preferences but then you'd have to do it EVERY TIME you loaded up DPaint. Keeping this general conversation in mind, I'll make absolutely certain that if I purchase any of your Amiga gameware, I'll NOT change the preferences file, or at least not re-save it onto an original disk!
