HI !
We may be getting new computers at my magazine in the coming weeks. We use
strictly Macintosh, although many of us are also well versed in MS-DOS.
However, none of us are familiar with the Amiga.
In earlier messaging here I learned that the Amiga can be made to
emulate a Mac. I'd like propose that I be allowed to use an Amiga, instead
of a Mac, so that I can familiarize myself with the sytem and better serve
the needs of our Amiga readers.
My question is: How well does the Amiga emulate the Macintosh, can
data be exchanged between the two via disk and how well will the Amiga run
Macintosh applications ?
What I'm looking for is information on a mid-range machine. If we
were talking of the IBM System 2 for instance. I would be thinking of a
model 55, not an 80 or a 30. Plus, I need to know what most Amiga users do
with their machines–animation, video, games ? And the proper
hardware/software needed for those pursuits.
Simply put, I need a setup which will familiarize me with the
widest possible range of Amiga user needs. Should be cake for you guys.

The answers to your questions would probably be better left to someone with
more experience with the Mac emulation then I, but seeing as there were no
quick responses…
The Macintosh emulation is accomplished with a third-part add-on from
ReadySoft call AmaxII. AmaxII requires the use of actual Mac 128K ROMS,
and as such offers a near-perfect emulation of a Mac Plus. I have seen
reports that the Amiga (in this case Amiga 2000) with Amax actually running
Mac Plus applications faster than a Mac Plus. There are also conversion
utilities for exchanging data on disk between the two formats.
