How Quit LW 2.0??
6 messages in this thread
I received 2.0 and have one question. I've searched the nice new manual,
but cannot find a definitive answer. The question is: How do you *quit*
Lightwave??? The switcher button is obvious, and the shift-click works for
Modeler, but how do I quit and unload Lightwave completely??

Simple, From the switcher, Shift-Click!

This is for NewTek: Yeah, simple, but why not document it.
This brings to mind an immediate observation I made when I opened my
upgrade: Where's the quick-start card?
The manual is a definite improvement, but it again assumes that you are
familiar with the toaster, and that you are willing to read throught at
least 10% of the manual before figuring out where the install instructions
are. (IN THE APPENDIX! ????!?!@?!?)

The quick start card is the grey manual (in that at least it tells you
where the installation information is located — and does so with earily
on).
An appendix is an excellent location for installation information. Its a
minor nit, but I hate to flip though 30 pages of 'first time information',
'quick start', and 'how to use an Amiga' in the front of a software manual.
BTW, I haven't been able to get lightwave2.0 to do anything but crash.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to play with it for at least a month so
hoping that my video guy will have a chance to see if its me or the
software.
I haven't had any problems with Lightwave, and Modeler 2.0 has as yet to
crash for me. A marked improvement on my A3000 w/6MB (yay!). I have noticed
that the other slices seem to be buggier though. Whenever I switch between
several of the slices, the output seems to get stuck on a freeze frame that
causes me to lose my frame buffers when it retruns to live video. I have
also noticed that when this happens, while in LightWave, I can see a ghost
of the live video over my freeze frame (usually the generic color bars).
When this happens, LightWave will appear to be rendering properly, but I
won't see anything on the screen. I have learned to save the finished
picture to disk, because then I can re-load it into ToasterPaint and
finally see the rendered image.
Hopefully, this is not limited to the 3000, so I can expect to see some
attention paid to the problem.
IT IS nice to be able to use the modeler finally. Thanks.

About all that I have been able to do is to load the software! What little
playing that I have done does impress me favorably. The product definately
appears to have received some improvements not the least of which is the
ability to multitask the machine.
I believe that I have seen the problem that you mentioned on rendering in
lightwave. I'll take a look when I get back home (and of course that is on
a 2500).
