#A2090 & adaptec 4070
9 messages in this thread
As one of the unfortunate to have an A2090 controller, Adaptec 4070, and RLL
drive (Seagate ST277R) I need some advice.
Is the low level format which only the C-ltd controller can perform needed on
all SCSI type drives or only the 4070-RLL combination?
My dealer claims to have an A2090 and Seagate ST277N (SCSI) working ok.
I'd appreciate any further light you can throw on the subject….THANKS
IF your SCSI HD is already scsi formatted, don't worry about it. If it's not,
then you DO have to worry about it. You'll need to hook it up to some
computer (I don't think a Mac will work because I don't think it's true scsi
format) that has a scsi controller and low level format the drive. In my
case, the drive was low level formatted when I got it, but a track was
damaged in transit. I needed to low level it again (scsi keeps it's own bad
sector map). CBM didn't provide the necessary software with the 2090, so I
connected the drive to a C Ltd controller on a 1000 and formatted it. Then
stuck it back on the 2090 and ran prep then high level formatted it — it
works fine.
Steve,
Thanks for the information. I'v got a couple other questions….
Is the mountlist entry "BlocksPerTrack" determined by the 4070 controller
(and if it is what would it be) or by the particular drive used?
Does the C-ltd contoller incorporate a 4070 controller? Do you need a
separate power supply for the drive or does the C-ltd. pass the power on.?
How does Commodore get away with releasing hardware without proper software
support?????
Thanks again for your help.
David,
The format of the drive and the entry in the mountlist must match.
What isn'r supported by CBM? Remember, C Ltd is not CBM.

larry, thanks for the information
my last question was somewhat facetious, but I was asking why the CBM 2090
controller which is advertised as st509-SCSI doesn't have software to do low
level SCSI formatting. It seems like it should…..Thanks again
