#AutoCAD Text

Anyone:
I have a question concerning text. If I create a dwg in 1"=100'
and than scale that dwg to 1/4"=1', how can I keep the text the same size?
Is there a certain font or a lisp routine that keeps the text from either
getting to large or visa-versa?

No… but if you're using ACAD R11 you can use a bonus program called
CHTXT, I think it is, and change all of the text height at once. If you are
using R10, the check out some of the text editing lisp routines that are in
Library 2. Many of them will change text heights for you.
C#
Mark – If you are using the SCALE command on the 1=1200 drawing to make it
plot out at 1=48 (quite a HUGE change incidentally) you could FREEZE the
LAYER on which the TEXT resides before FREEZING. Of course the INSERT
POINT of each TEXT string would change so the strings would have to be
MOVEd to suit. Or you could SCALE the TEXT with the other entities and
then use a lisp such as RESIZE.LSP to change the TEXTHEIGHT of all strings
by selecting them by window.
(defun c:resize (/ ss txsize n index ent type oldsize newsize ent1)
(setq ss (ssget))
(setq txsize (getdist "\nEnter new text size"))
(setq n (sslength ss))
(setq index 0)
(repeat n
(setq ent (entget (ssname ss index)))
(setq index (+ 1 index))
(setq type (assoc 0 ent))
(if (= "TEXT" (cdr type))
(progn
(setq oldsize (assoc 40 ent))
(setq newsize (cons (car oldsize) txsize))
(setq ent1 (subst newsize oldsize ent))
(entmod ent1)
)
)
) )

Mark – Before I get deluged for *BAD* information, the INSERT POINTS of
text strings which are frozen before SCALE do not change. But the position
of the drawing entities changes with relation to the text strings, so you
will still have to MOVE them back to their original orientation to drawing
entities ( circle radius callout back to the circle it specifies, contour
elevation text back to the correct contour line,…). The Libraries have
several text manipulators.
If the original question was what if I set units to 1=1200 and size text to
plot correctly at 1=1200 but then decide to plot at 1=48, then I'm not sure
there is a way to merely change text size on its way to the plotter but
leave it unchanged in the drawing database.
Sorry but I suffer from "broken-brain" quite often, Rick
Mark – No, there's no way to have text that dynamically responds to changes
in plotting scale. And, its rather difficult to do. If for example, your
plotting scale were to change drastically from a large scale to a smaller one,
then the text would have to become larger. And, if you have mutli-line text,
then the linefeed spacing between the lines also scales with the text height.
And, what if the text was automatically resolved to maintain a consistent plot
height, and as a result of enlarging it in drawing units, it overwrites or
interferes with some other element on the drawing? I know of one CAD system
that attempts this, but more often, the user has to make manual adjustments to
the dynamically-resized text, because it ends up interfereing with something
nearby on the drawing.
