Highway Speed

I am looking for any tricks of the trade for the following animation.
A highway has been created in 3DS R3. It is oval in shape with curves,
and straight-aways. I have created a camera linked to a dummy object
which follows a path around the highway, and have used the Follow
command with a bank angle of 15 degrees. There currently are 63 key
frames placed along the road,evenly spaced with the road white lines.
My first attempt of this render was to a fli file and then fli to
videotape to test for speed. The 620 frame was way to fast, so I
doubled the length to 1240 frames by using the time scale segment
command and re-rendered as a fli to video tape. The motion is
somewhat slower but still not acceptable enough. The camera position
is traveling just above the road with a lens of 14.79mm and a FOV of
115.6 deg. My thoughts at this point of time are:
1. Rescale segment time ?; however it is getting lengthly. 2. Change
the camera's FOV, lens and or position to de-emphasize the speed ? 3.
Rescale the road ? 4. Add more keys ?
You don't say what output you're using (FLC or single-frame) – which would
determine your playback speed. Once you know how fast your playback is (say,
30fps for single frame) then it should be easy to determine the number of
frames based on the length of your track and the speed you want the camera to
travel — like, track=1 mile long, 30 fps, & 60mhp camera means one loop of the
track would take the camera 1 minute, and at 30 fps, that would be 1800 frames.

Dave, I rendered out to fli file, then fli (disc to vtr) single frame. This was
my test before rendering out as a TGA file single frame(s). Though I am not
actually interested in mph, my main objective is slowing down the speed, other
than scaling the segment. The other solution would be slo-mo via vtr after the
rendering.

I would suggest not using a fli as a test because of its unreliable playback
speed. Use David's suggestion for figuring out x no. of frames=speed, render a
low res (256×240 1.26 aspect) series of tga's and do a single frame to vtr
test.
