For no particular reason, upon booting this morning, I got the wonderfully
fascinating "can't find protected driver" message. You led me through this
minefield on December 3, 1993 and amazingly, I still have your message.
Howsomever, it doesn't seem to be working. I have the ubiquitous vga for
editor and materials and targa+ 16/32 for rendering. I have NO setrcp entry in
the autoexec file. I do have a setrdpadi=c:\3ds2\drivers\rdptplus.exp entry in
the autoexec.bat file. Per your instructions, I deleted the 3dadi.cfg file,
then ran 3ds vibcfg. I can't remember what entries I'm supposed to chose. I
have tried them all. I thought it was VIBRANT, VIBRANT, RDPADI but this does
not work. Could you please assist this old codger just one more time. I have
no system till I get it right.

On page 66 of the Instalation Guide, it explains the process.
The easiest install is to choose vibrant and "vesa compatible"
for main-display, materials-editor and the render-display.
On page 70 it discribes what to do with the RDPADI and
RCPADI parameters.

What card are you trying to set up? What you want to do is delete the
3dsadi.cfg, then type 3ds vibcfg. This will bring you to a very
straightforward setup screen where you will select the appropriate video card
choices for 3d editor, renderer, and mat edit, and also for flics (although I
use the default here). If you have a Hercules Graphite, for instance, then
you'd choose the vibrant driver for the 3d editor, renderer, and materials
editor, and select the Herculese Graphite for all these choices. The steps are
well outlined in the installation guide.

Thanks for the response. It took some doing to figure it out. Seems it was a
lantastic problem which was halting the autoexec.bat before it got to the
drivers. And just when I thought it was safe…

I'm glad you got it setup. I'm sorry my message to you got posted half a
million times, NavCis was playing practical jokes while I was out of town
today.

No problem…actually, it would probably be a good idea to get some of
the messages about 3000 times! I know, I know, read the manual. If
only I had a left brain, I might be more capable of divining the
nuances of the manual. I'm afraid artist/animators are just a little
too used to looking at and making pictures. The old joke about not
enough pictures in the book is true a thousand-fold.
As for the Abekas, I appreciate your support. I guess it's just
natural to freak out at the thought of introducing a major piece of
equipment into a fragile (at best) system. Should be interesting.
I'll certainly advise you as to the trials and tribulations.
Yeah, I usually end up reading manuals only after several hours of futile
tinkering. Installation? Isn't that where you type A:install? <g>.

As usual, you're correct. It seems there was a touch of weirdness going on
with Lantastic. Once that was fixed, my driver problem cleared right up!

Are you using R2 or R3? Check the directory name in your set rdpadi statement.
It looks like you've got "3ds2".
