#Ping Server

I am looking for a little help in a program that I am using. I have a program called Amilink and I want to add a beeping sound for certain functions. Naughty, Naughty!! The ping program you are trying to figure out gets integrated into AmiLink at install to "ping" the dongle during AmiLink operations. We know what you really want pin information for….;^} Actually, your best bet is to get rid of AmiLink. RGB is a pitiful bunch to work with. Each improvement makes the program worse. They charged $400 for a Toaster 4000 compatible upgrade which degraded the program, had none of the advertised extra features working, (like the Studio16 interface) and then have the Gall to ask for another $400 for a years worht of tech support! They are a company of broken promises, schmoozers and liars. They forces out their top technical guy who went to work for Pride and when Pride came out with their Amiga based editor, RGB filed suit. So now all their energy is devoted to filing suits to protect the cash cow rather than to developing a superior product people might prefer to the competition. Course, they don't want competition cause then they'd have to charge fair instead of rip-off prices. BTW, there is a company in WI, I thnk that will de-dongle-ize the program for you if you send them the original disk and $60. Maybe someone here can tell you thir name and phone. I don't remember it thougI talked to them once before I decided to try to replace my AmiLink system with something more robust, reliable and that doesn't depend on RGB. wmc – via Autopilot!

Wayne: I think the program he's looking for isn't one to 'ping' the dongle, but rather one that was distributed with VLT called 'pingserver', it's run in the user-startup, and then programs that understand it (such as VLT) can then make a beep, or using another small program that comes in the VLT package called 'beep' you can make your Amiga beep within scripts. // -Mike Schiller \X/ AMIGA! Well, if thats the case, someone should sue RGB for using the name 'ping', right? I mean, if they can sue PIV for having the gaul to compete with them, maybe someone should dip into RGB's deep pockets for some odd superfluos reason. . . :^} wmc – via Autopilot!

I will be honest with you, I never thought of de dongalizing the program. I am the type of person who actually pays for the use of shareware programs. I would never use it like that. I really want the ping server for the following use. I want the computer to make a beep sound when the edit is actually happening. At the instant that it happens. BTW, it was RGB themselves who recomended that program to me. Thanks for any help in this matter. Do you know where I can find either that program, or something that will work for me? good luck BEN

Ben, I was rattling your cage and letting off steam over RGB's problems at t he same time. I don't midn the dongle either except the non-transparent part and the way it has forced me to go to switchboxes and extra parallel port cards and I still can't print out a list fromt he program while its running without shutting everything down, re-cableing the printer, firing it all up doint the print, take it all down… Just doesn't seem like the way a $4500 piece of professional software should operate. As for the ping server, I'll look at the Fish CD's that came with the cdfs upgrades and see if its there. May be a few days… wmc – via Autopilot!
