#Hardware Problems
4 messages in this thread
I've been trying to postpone upgrading to v3 until I've had to and
maybe I have to now. Recently, I had a problem with my machine and
had to replace the motherboard and the videocard. Ever since then,
if I render with RCPADI, the machine reboots at various points of the
renderings (only in the keyframer with lengthy anims, not in the
editor.) If I render in VGA320x200, the program stalls in the
transformation of objects during some point in the animation although
it does not hang. I've ran as many diagnostics as I can on both new
additions and everything appears normal.
My question is do you feel that IYHO purchasing v3 would eliminate this problem
or do I have an underlying hardware problem that would still be present. I've
always had some glitches with my drivers but never to the point that it has
prevented me from accomplishing renderings.
Thank you,
Chris
Chris,

Are you able to get your video board/system to work correctly when in
VESA mode? Are you using a memory manager that allows you to exclude
regions of you memory for devices like your graphics card (cd-rom,
scanner, sound card…) and you excluded them?
Besides the improved rendering quality, the vastly
improved materials editor, the emerging IPAS routines
that will use many of the 200 new features found in R3,
network rendering,.., the improvement in the one stop
video configuration makes swapping cards on demand
a breeze.
IMHO…get R3 for all the new fun found there.

Problems aside, R3 has rendered R2 pretty much obsolete. It has SOOOO
MMAAAANNNYYY jumps on R2 (especially the renderer) that I wouldn't use R2 under
ANY circumstances.
That aside, R3 may not function under your present configuration, as it sounds
like you've got memory and/or hardware conflicts happening. R3 is even pickier
than R2 in that respect (newer Pharlap), but will run just as well, and perform
infinitely better once you've got conflicts straightened out.

Thanks John, I appreciate the thought. That's what I was expecting, and as
much as I am dying for v3, it has to be postponed for the present time. Thanks
for the input. 🙁
