From the material safety data sheet packed with each DEC LN03 toner kit:
Ingredients percentage
Ferrosoferric oxide 55
Styrene acrylic resin 45
"The primary toxicity of this material would be expected to be associated with
the nuisance dust characteristics of the chemical mixture. Neither of the two
chemical components of the product are listed by any of the primary regulatory
or research agencies. Precursors (i.e. styrene and acrylic acid) of the syrene
acrylic resin are recognized to be toxic, there are no data in the open
scientific literature which indicate a toxicity associated with this resin
itself. "
First Aid: "Inhalation: If a person breathes in large amounts of material, move
the exposed person to fresh air at once. If breathing has stopped, perform
artificial respiration. Keep the affected person warm and at rest. Get medical
attention as soon as possible."
I would guess that, except for particle size, NEC toner is remarkably similar
to DEC toner.
In other words, don't inhale it. We don't hink it will hurt you if you do, but
if we say that we open ourselves up to massive litigation from people who eat
strange things for fun. (To paraphrase DEC.)

Thanks for the very interesting notes on DEC toner, particularly the "first
aid" section!
I have been told (by NEC) that the NEC toner particle size is so small that it
will fly right through a vacuum cleaner bag. They use a special vacuum cleaner
to clean NEC-800 series printers that are in for service.
The key in taking apart an NEC-890 OPC cartridge is to remove the drum VERY
CAREFULLY and avoid both spills and dust. Interestingly, I've found that all
parts (except the drum) can be immersed in water, cleaned completely, and left
to dry thoroughly. Upon re-assembly, the OPC cartridge will work fine.
