#Modify/Object/Move hangs
7 messages in this thread
I am getting a system hang (with buit-in Vibrant driver) or a looping
error message ("Get allocator error..Attempted to put past end of
allocated area…") with either the VGA or VESA driver options.
It occurs when I attempt to do a Modify/Object/Move in the 3D Editor
with 4 objects selected and Shift pressed to create a clone. I am
prompted for "Single or Multiple" and when I click on multiple it
presents a "rename" of my first object. I press enter and then get
the hang or error loop.
I'm using 3dsr3 and a Graphite VL Pro card on a 486/66. I am using
DOS 5, with HIMEM.SYS and no other memory manager. Does this ring a
bell? Need more info? I've pared the mesh down to about 40K. It
was originally created with 3dsr2 as a .prj file, then when the hang
cropped up (while editing in r3) I created the 3ds file.
An allocator error means that 3DS tried to put or get to/from an area of memory
that it couldn't access. That's almost always a sign of a problem with memory
management, hardware conflicts, or bios settings. I'm a hardware idiot, so I
can't help you with that much. but there are plenty of folks here on ASOFT who
have much more insight into that than I.

Carl, When doing a Modify/Object/Move on a selection set of objects
make sure that you don't have any hidden faces in any of the objects.
There is a bug in 3DS3 that will cause the program to bomb or do
other weird stuff when you click on the multiple button. Just make
sure to do a Unhide/All before you do the copy.

What bug? I tried by your limited description and I couldn't find any
thing wrong.

'Zactly so! Thanks for your confirmation. I found that hidden Objects seemed
to cause no problem, just faces hidden via Hide/Face.
BTW, did the Liquid Speed upgrade help on your system? Mine did–course I got
a new motherboard in the meantime. <g>
Carl, Uh huh on the hidden faces thing and yes, the LS upgrade made a
difference. The throttle now has more yellow dots. <g>
