I charge by the hour, its much easier than trying to quote a price up
front. They are always changing their minds after they see the first
interation. Its hard to tell if a particular view will portray their
clients position appropiately.
Its best to require a retainer fee, when money is involved you know
they are serious then. They can change their minds or it might settle
out of court, in the mean time you might have turned down another job
because you though there was not enough time. One time both sides
were wanting my services, a retainer fee is definately needed it such
a circumstance.
From my experience, about 10 sec per view is average. Usually its not
required to reconstruct the accident from when the person got out of
bed in the morning <BG>.
Most times they don't make it to court, but it must help them obtain
a favorable settlement or they wouldn't keep coming back. So far I
have not had a problem with getting them into court. I suspect that
it could become more difficult as the attorneys become more familiar
with computer animation and can start asking intelligent questions.

I would get at least half as a retainer. Also make sure to specify
that you are paid upon delivery, not when the case is settled. I
still am fighting with a lawyer that doesn't want to pay me till he
settles the case.

Good advice!! I had some problems with getting my money at the end,
but it was because the attorney had some questions about the bill.
Have you ever had the problem where one attorney has retained you
just to keep you from working for the other side. I'm not trying to
pat myself on the back. What I'm worried about is that all I will
get from this is the retainer of $400, while the attorney just sits
on the case till it to late for me to work for the other side and
reap some real income for this case. I think your wanting at least
half for the retainer is an excellent idea now, one I think I'll
adopt right now!!<BG>. The only problem is if you are new and trying
to prove your worth.
