'SNOW HAS MELTED' two days of snow and its melted, already! weired assed weather. Come summer I think I'll sail over and check it out; assuming you have summer of course! Maybe I'll have a pint or two of Tetleys. Although not in that pub on the Yorkshire moors. I think Kangaroo translates as "What did you say?" speaking of translating, I believe my name translates from Saxon(or something) to dweller of the dark lands of Lancashire. I wasn't talking about God TV, Praise the Lord and pass the plate; just Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) I assume its the quality TV equivalent, no ads unless you count their own and the "this program was sponsored by …", its just that every couple of months they have: please send money to keep all these quality programs coming to you, like re-runs of Are you being served though I do miss Hitchhikers Guide and one who's name I forget, it had a black guy with a liverpool accent (I think) and all the rest of the cast were holograms, love those Brit Sci-Fi's the fx is cheezy but the story-lines seem to be better than STNG and Babylon 5, Tek War et al. I agree that realty TV shows COPS etc. make me shudder. Personaly I hope that if someone is kicking tens colors of sh*t out of me I wish they'd drop the bloody camera and come help. Nothing in particular against lawyers, they're the only bait I've tried that the sharks refuse to eat, maybe its because they're related. –>though I do miss Hitchhikers Guide Graham that's on the Sci-Fi channel now (think it's every saturday or sunday. –>it had a black guy with a liverpool accent (I think) and all the rest of the cast were holograms You're thinking of Dwarf Star. Great show!! –>the story-lines seem to be better than STNG and Babylon 5 Ah, but remember the BBS assumes it's watchers have an education and understand what the plot line is<g>. British comedy is so much more sophisticated (when you get the jokes<g>) Heard the joke the other day: What do you get when you have 2000 lawyers chained at the botton of the ocean? A start! Or another: Why was the leopard following after an elephant eating the elephant's excretment (read sh*t). It had just eaten a lawyer and wanted to get the taste out of it's mouth. Thanks for the info on Hitchikers I'll look for it. I don't know about Brit Sit-Coms being more sophisticated, it's just that they don't have to be so p.c. they take a jab at whatever the writers think will get a laugh, I agree that some of the college comedy shows: Monty Python etc. do have some oblique references but you have to remember these were orignated by college students originally for their own entertainment. Don't get me started on lawyers; only in America could two "kids" who freely admit they shot their parents get off with a mis-trial.
#38785From: Trent HawkinsFeb 17, 1994 7:35 PM
Maybe I should have said their humour was more dry<g>. As to the Menendez (sp?) thing, I believe it has to go through again as in a mis-trial it just means the jury cannot make up it's mind. Another jury has to be picked and the whole thing re-done. Remember the pointy end of the boat is called the 'Bow'.<g>
#38882From: graham heywoodFeb 20, 1994 2:37 PM
Thanks for the tip about the `pointy end', now if I can figure out what all these ropes laying around are for, I may be able to get somewhere.
#38916From: Trent HawkinsFeb 21, 1994 2:44 AM
The ropes are for fishing.. You tie an old disk on to the end of one and toss it into the pond and lo and behold you will soon be lying with the best of them<g>. Make sure you cut the rope attatched to the big paperweight (it's not really required and it takes up too much space – space needed for more beer coolers<g>). Does your boat come with the optional string bikini clad goddesses, or is it the economy version?
#38954From: graham heywoodFeb 21, 1994 5:26 PM
No optional extras I'm afraid, I've just the economy version, thanks for the tip about the ropes, next on my list of things to find out about are these big white thingys that flap around in the wind, I believe the technical term is 'sails'. I have found a tip for the coolers, if you freeze your beer beforehand then you've no need for ice, just remember to leave a six-pack or two unfrozen else it may be a dry day or two. The paperweight I need to keep my Frontier manual from flying away, Those constant references to it for the game protection is extremely irritating, surely its only neccessary once per playing session. If you run across me in the vicinity of Sol, I'm the Panther going slow, but getting these, give a wave as you pass.
#38965From: Trent HawkinsFeb 21, 1994 10:25 PM
Hey, the most I know about squiding is that those flapping white things are noise makers for keeping you up at night<g>. They could be real annoying with a hangover<g>. I would suggest getting rid of them and make them into bedsheets or something<g>. Use the outboard..<g>. As to giving a wave as I pass, I will be the heavily armed gunboat.. Rob will be out to get me so if you do wave back please make sure that the finger isn't near the fire control button<g>. Would really hate to _accidently_ waste a Panther..<g>

Don't blame the lawyers, blame the stupid people who pay the lawyers to do their bidding. It's not as if lawyers can hold people down and force them to obey stupid suggestions.

Hi John, Sorry if I offended you with the running joke about lawyers, I didn't know we were so p.c. here in the AmigaArts. But if you want to get into a fight <g> here's my penultimate insult: "Your mama uses a IBM" Graham On a quest to find the Holy Kalik
#39106From: SyndesisFeb 25, 1994 9:09 AM
Penultimate? You mean you've got another insult coming? And I'm certainly not P.C., and it seems more PC to be to bash lawyers… defending the unpopular has never been popular, in any age. 🙂

Think the Japanese have got it right.. They call America the 'Paper Tiger' due to the huge amount of lawyers. There names should be changed to "leeches" (IMO)
#39195From: Gayle Lee FairlessFeb 26, 1994 10:18 PM
> Think the Japanese have got it right.. They call America the 'Paper Tiger' I remember Krushchev's retort that the 'tiger' has nuclear teeth according to an anecdoete sometime after the Cuban missile crisis. BTW, there are only 3 lawyers' jokes: The rest are true stories!

> You're thinking of Dwarf Star. Great show!! . Actually, it's called "Red Dwarf". It is a great show, though. 🙂

Ouch!! Knew it had a dwarf in it somewhere.. I think I'm mixing up Red Dwarf and Dark Star.. Oh well.. Back to PBS..
#38972From: Nathan WahlFeb 22, 1994 5:26 AM
Trent, Dark Star. Wasn't that a movie about a crew of bored people blowing up planets or something? I think I liked it when I saw it ten years or so ago. Nate Wahl, Emerald Video I am a Nate, ergo I Animate!

English weather is ALWAYS weird… generally wet but mostly weird <g> Oh dear a Tetley drinker… switch to a good solid Guinness… How do TV Evangelists get away with it ? in fact what sort of a person sends in money ? from all i've seen it looks a real big con, but an obvious one… BTW The brit sci-fi one is called Red Dwarf, with 'The Cat, and Rimmer the hologram + Lister the only surviving crew member' that is VERY funny, one of the best programs since the Blackadder series.. Hmm maybe Politicians would be unpaletable to sharks, or how about crooked newspaper owners (aka Robet Maxwell…)
#38841From: graham heywoodFeb 19, 1994 12:18 PM
I have just tried a bar in Freeport, Bahamas by the name of Union Jack, you'd think they'd have a Guinness, but while while there I did finally find a reason to laugh at a Harry Harrison joke in the Bill series (Planet of Ten Thousand Bars, I think) there is actually a brew called Old Percular. TV Evangelists? well that's a southern thing and the physcology of it baffels me, any region that eats grits and chicklins, and their family tree dosn't have any branchs, has to be a little strange. Although there is a Steve Martin movie: Leap of Faith which had me (ROTFWLIA). Heres another thought: the decline of the Brit Empire was completed when they went decimal, any culture that had so many mathmatical bases i.e. base of 12 for pennies, base of 20 for shillings, base of 8 for pints etc. must have a reasonable school system else everyone would be wandering around going is 17/6 the right change from a five for a pint of Guinness. Loved Blackadder, though Mr Bean is the one for me, pity there is so few of them, I always thought a series had to have 100 shows before being syndicated? Hey I like Grits (well in small doses <g>) fraid i've never seen leap of faith, although steve martin is brilliant in nearly every film he does… Re: UK going to metric… ROTFL.. he he, could be it but even a young 18 year old like me still weighs himself in Stones and measures his height in Feet…still i gotta admit the old metric thingy <g> makes a little more sense then the old Imperial system, apparently we (eg the Government <g> not me….) put off converting to Metric coz we thought it was TOO complicated <g> I find Mr.Bean is a 'Cringe' factor a bit too high for me, some comedy i like, even some blatantly silly stuff like Allo Allo but mr.Bean just makes me wanna leave the room… still he redeemed himself with the Barclycard adverts <g> he he, i think i've sorted out the floppy disk numbering system <g>
#38925From: graham heywoodFeb 21, 1994 7:55 AM
I didn't know that grits were available anywhere except in the south? You must be talking about instant grits which southerns argue don't count as real grits, which are so bland that the only way I can eat them is to stir my eggs yolks into them, cover them with syrup and then while the waitress is not looking scrap them into the trash. Stones, see what I mean calculate in base 16(hex/) US weight systems are a little simpler i.e. 100lbs (8 stones = 112lb) in a hundredweight, 2000lbs (2240lbs 20hw) in a ton. Leap of Faith has been showing on some of the premium TV networks, which get the movies around 3 months after the video stores, so I guess it may be realeased to the theatres over there shortly, although if King Ralph as only just made it there then it could be a year or two, unless of course it's too american. I always thought KR was a brit movie with a american lead to sell it over here, like A Fish Called Wanda. Just took a run over to Miami and found Frontier, Elite II, It certainly beats the c**p out of Civilization, which has been my main stay of eating time. After fairly intense trading (would you believe a 25hr session), I have maxed out my ship on Earth 8 missiles, shields, ecm etc. and am now ready to set out into the galaxy, I also found quite a few English bars in the next town up (Lauderdale), so I've stopped looking for guinness, a few of those puts hair on the back of eyes. Ah well back to bud.

Ok maybe the grits i have eaten were not the real thing, hmm maybe i'll try some when/if i come over again.. tried a bagel, tasted foul <g> Base sixteen is fine but they haven't quite mastered the art of putting 8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F on the scales yet…. hmm o have to admit your Billions and ours do differe, it's all too confusing for me i am afraid – still i rarely have to count Biliions <g> if only huh… I found A Fish Called Wanda weird the first time i watched it, they put it on TV again this Xmas and i found it hysterical, maybe i'm just oer know and get the jokes but i was waking the family up with my laughter <g> Glad i win with the floppies, i've gotta think of somthing else now 🙁 I hope you live near Miami, seems pointless going that far to get a copy of Frontier otherwise <g> Glad you like it… it's real addictive, i have done a 13 hour session (exculding toilet breaks etc <g>) but that obviously pales into insignificance compare to your 25 – ouch bet your eyes hurt after that (also bet you turned the music off by then <g>) Rejoice… he found somewhere to get him a good pint of guinness…
#39092From: graham heywoodFeb 24, 1994 10:49 PM
Agree with you about some bagels, but until you've tried a wholewheat with lox, you haven't lived. If you've got your Panther, take care of those engines there not many class 8 hyperdrives lying around, I tried the plasma thingy, but now just mount a couple of 100mw's in the turrets, and punched the shields up to 50, if I can't track the pirates as they come in, they just run into the shields, it's like shooting fish in a barrel. Graham On a quest to find the Holy Kalik
#39113From: Robert KingFeb 25, 1994 2:12 PM
Sorry what is lox ? Hmm already lost my Class 8 before… nasty experience, shame i can't put them in a smaller ship and get a REAL big hyperspace range and time… as for shields, well it gets real boring once you've got more than 25 – nobody can penetrate them as far as i can tell – almost funny when you get some silly little fighter trying to blow you away <g>
#39129From: graham heywoodFeb 25, 1994 8:00 PM
You've never tried lox? You're pulling my leg, still I'd expect that from a country that still drinks its tea warm! Yeah, it does, get a little boring going anywhere and nobody being able to touch you, thinking about trading down.
#39261From: Robert KingFeb 28, 1994 1:56 PM
He he, Tea warm…. well actually i have been known to drink Cold coffee does that qualify ? still what is Lox ? I was serious about cold tea, try brewing a pot sticking it the icebox, serving it with ice, lemon and sugar to taste, Lipton actually has a Instant Ice Tea Mix, but what do you expect from a country that can't be bothered with tea-leaves. (I seem remember a minor fracas over tea) and Iced coffee is also a legitimate drink, but no lemon. I went to a Imperial Trader, purely because it looks nice, now if I could find one with a saucer in front, I'd be able to utter those immortal words: "To baldly to go …", can't imagine where I'd find 2,000 crew though. 1: Do you have any Lox, lox, lox, egg, lox, lox, chips & lox without the lox? 2: I'll have the lox, I like lox. Cut to: Group singing: Lox, Lox, Lox wonderful lllloooxxx. Graham There's no future in Time Travel
