George. As was stated on the phone, the genlock sky works off your Amiga zero color, set the color the same as your sky and the video will come through. THis works, So try it. Mike

Hi Mike! I TRIED that with no luck. I went into Amiga Preferences and set my Workbench background to color 000, black. When I rendered the image, a sphere with all globals for sky set to zero, Imagine gave me a black background, but it was NOT transparent to video. I got the same thing as before, video showing only around the borders of the background. As before, loading this IFF image into DPaint confirmed that Imagine had rendered the black background with color 1, NOT color zero in the palette. I can't understand why this doesn't work. I've tried everything I can think of, but the results are always the same. Any other ideas? George

Did you set the Genlock sky button?

Yes, I selected the genlock sky button in the globals Info requested. It was marked with a "x". George

George, You mentioned that you set color "0" in your WB preferences to 000. Just a silly question, but did you also set genlock color to 000 in the Imagine preferences? Changing your WB preferences will have no effect on how Imagine genlocks the sky. Alan Henry – Digital Plastic F-100-PW-200 Inside

Well, I got genlock sky to work sort of. With V2.0 I get correct genlocked sky images sometimes in RGBN-12 and sometimes in ILBM-12 modes. I tried with V2.9 and had better luck. I didn't change ANYTHING in Imagine Prefs with V2.9 and genlock sky worked fine in RGBN-12 or ILBM-12 formats. Does anyone find this genlock feature works with color shade mode? I have only been able to get it to work in scanline or trace mode. George

<<Well, I got genlock sky to work…>> Congratulations, I believe that was Blaq that helped you figure that one out. I was completely perplexed, since I couldn't duplicate it. I'll take a look at the Color Shade mode and see what I can come up with. Alan Henry – Digital Plastic F-100-PW-200 Inside

It might be fun to really run down what all the options are. Does this work, as I found with V2.9 in both RGBN-12 and ILBM-12 formats? All rendering modes or just which ones? I tried using a background pic and global brush with genlocked sky this weekend and, rendered in 24-bit it looked really good over live video! Good luck! George

Hmmm, very strange. Hope you find the problem with the Genlock function.

George asked me for help in E-mail and I got his problem licked in no time flat. BLAQ'S RECIPE FOR GENLOCKING IN IMAGINE ————————————— In Imagine's Preferences, set COL0 and GENC to the same value. This should be a color which will not appear in your scene; for example, set COL0 to F,0,0 and GENC to F0,00,00. Then click on "Genlock sky" in the Action editor's Globals actor bar, and/or "Genlock" in the Attributes requester of any object you want to be genlock-transparent. When you render the animation in a ILBM-12bit format _register_ (not HAM) mode, color 0 in the palette will be full red in my example, which is also the color of the genlocked sky; therefore, the sky will be transparent when genlocked over live video. Ta-daa! Another way to ensure your genlock color doesn't inadvertently appear in unwanted areas of your scene is to set COL0 and GENC to all zeroes, and to add a bit of ambient light in the Globals; even 1,1,1 would do the trick.

Thanx for the tip Blaq!, believe it or not I still DON'T own a Genlock. So many toys so little time

I'm filing that one away for reference. I don't have a genlock either. He who dies with the most toys is dead. – Vree from VA
