#Blitz Disk – Where?

By the same marketing logic, it's like buying an expensive sports car
just to get a good radio.
Why not just put Blitz Disk in the public domain (or shareware) if
you don't think you can make a profit with conventional marketing?
Jeff
Partly I don't want to put BlitzDisk as shareware or PD because it would
not be fair to ASDG and FACC II sales. I've given away plenty of my work,
and did BlitzDisk with the intention of paying the mortgage. As part of
TxEd Plus, it helps do that. $79.95 may seem a bit steep if the only thing
you want in the TxEd Plus package is BlitzDisk, but I don't think comparing
it with a sports car to get a radio is the right metaphor … maybe more
like paying for a CD] when all you wanted was an LP.
Trying to explain market realities to end users usually comes off sounding
pretty bad, particularly when you don't hide behind an easy (but glossed
over) explanation… …cheath
Fair to ASDG? I don't get it! Are you saying you don't want to give Perry a
little competition?
John,
Growing up, I happened upon an experience which I would like to relate
to you:
In our little town, things were good. People were happy. There was room
for all. In our little town there was a fellow who sold cottage cheese
but did not sell sour cream (he was a representative
of the cottage cheese company and sold his cheese to local merchants).
Things were good for this fellow. He was happy.
His friend for many years had the sour cream route and he also, did very
well. He too was happy. All was well.
But, one day his friend who sold sour cream decided that the opportunity
for selling cottage cheese AND sour cream to the merchants of our little
town was just too good to pass up. So, the sour cream sales man started
selling cottage cheese.
What could the poor cottage cheese salesman do but pick up a line of sour
cream so that he could maintain his ability to attract, keep, and service
his customers? So he did. And saddness descended upon our little town.
You see, our little town was juuuuust big enough to support a sour cream
salesman. And a cottage cheese salesman. But it was juuuust a little too
small to support TWO cottage cheese and sour cream salesmen. In the ensu-
ing difficulties, both men lost their companies.
Do you get my meaning, John? Charlie knows what he's doing.
Perry
Hey, if I thought I could capture the cottage cheese market and live happily
ever after I'd be glad to go for it, but I wouldn't just give cottage cheese
away. Stuff I give away, I'd rather not be taking away somebody else's
opportunity.

Perry,
What they both should have been doing was blowing up K-Mart. 8)

Any chance of putting a hard disk cache into FACC-II? Let's get some
REAL competition going.
Jeff
Any discussion of features which may or may not go into Facc III (should
such a product come into being) would be premature. However, if a
specification for such a product existed, it would definitely contain a
hard disk cache and a lot of other features which may or may not have been
discussed previously. (:-)

I don't want to give them competition from something free, no, not when I'm
not going to benifit except for the warm fuzzy feeling of giving something
away. I'm glad to compete on equal terms- …cheath

John,
It had to do with putting it out as freely distibutable software, rather
than as a commercial product.
