#Turbo/Ami Pascal, Bridge

I am an Amiga 2000 owner who is about to enter a Master's Degree program in Computer Science. My problem is this: Most of the programming assignments will require Turbo Pascal. Can anyone here compare for me Turbo Pascal to MetaComCo's, or to any other Amiga Pascal there may be. Alternately, can anyone tell me whether Turbo Pascal is known to run well on the Bridgeboard? As I might even get to the point of getting (gasp) an IBM compatible, the Bridgeboard would probably be a preferable alternative, if it were known to work. Finally, what are the current rumors about the Bridgeboard. Is the long awaited 80286 based bridge anywhere near coming out? I know that it has been shown at every possible trade show for the last two centuries, but when will it actually be BUYable? Unfortunately, I get the feeling that it will happen immediately AFTER I buy my 8088 based one.

Ken, Unknown on the release date for the 286 BridgeBoard…but you're probably right…the day you buy an 8088 bridge the 286 version will come out. I haven't tried Turbo Pascal on the Bridge, but there's no reason it shouldn't work. The Bridge is an 8088 driven IBM PC/XT clone run under the Phoenix BIOS ROM. That ROM is about as compatible as you can get. I personaly would not worry about it working, but then I'm not buying it either. I suppose if you had to be 100% positive…if you know someone who has Turbo Pascal, have them bring their copy to an Amiga dealer's with you and test it. I can't compare the MetaComco Pascal with Turbo Pascal…I don't use either. Don

If the local dealer has a bridgeboard, I'll test it with Turbo Pascal. Metacomco is a real pascal, not much in common with Turbo if you do anything fancy. I have been programming with Turbo for years and love it. Somewhere I read that a company is making a "Turbo Pascal" compatible compiler for the Amiga, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

Borland advertised TurboPascal in the very first AmigWorld, then they changed their minds and decided to shift their efforts to ANOTHER computer system rather than Amiga. I never thought Borland would be a vaporware company… Maybe eventually they'll come back and finish the job. (Don't hold your breath…)
