#Inside 3DS R4 Shipping

Well, I'm pleased to say that "Inside 3D Studio Release 4" is now shipping!
As its title implies, all the new R4 features are covered while the original
3D Studio information is improved and made even more comprehensive. (The
latest issues concerning AutoCAD R13 coordination are also detailed.)
Interesting additions to its CD include 3DE (for creating custom script and
IPAS dialogs), the latest DXF3DS utility, and valuable KeyScript utilities
for pivot point placement, camera tracking, and skin/muscle bulging
(developed by Jonas).
We trimmed a "bit" and managed to squeeze the +100 pages of dedicated R4
material within what is now a 1220 page volume.

Is there a way to get just r4 part ( 100 pages)? Where can we get it now?

Keeping with the format of the book, R4 features have been blended with their
appropriate sections (IK is in "advanced animation techniques" for example).
There is a "quick look up list" for veteran readers to the new sections though.

No, and doing so would be a disservice to you – there's just TOO much that got
updated throughout the volume (we've learned "a bit" in the last year and am
passing that along to you in the update).

I'd like to suggest that all of you, who may be interested in analyzing these
scripts, but do not have Computer Graphics by Foley, vanDam, Feiner, Hughes or
3D Computer Animation by Vince, go to your favorite bookstore that sells
MicroSoft Systems Journal and purchase February's 95 issue.
This issue, on pgs. 19-40, covers many of the transformation matrix concepts
that you will need in order to fully follow my code. The article focus' on
OpenGL, but that aspect of the article can be completely ignored. This issue is
a great addition to your personal library of 3D math concepts for those who
can't afford the other references.

Hi Ian,
In writing bulge.k3d, I reviewed several reference books trying to get all of
the transformation straight %-) in my head. I was surprised at the clarity of
the presentation of transformation matrices in the MSJ. I'd like to hear what
you think of the article after you've read it.
